What is the best way to prepare beaver meat for trapping? I got 4 this past season and they are in the freezer.

Two ways:
First, I mixed up some Nelson solution, added a few gifts from my good friend Bristleback, and added tainted, ground beaver meat to it. It should be good stuff.
Second, Nick Wyshinski (ph) gives a solution made of liquified cow liver, to which is added castor, mink & muskrat glands, then everything is added to fresh beaver chunks. He claims it's a great cat bait, but I've never tried it.

First you fillet the back straps off.
Then you cut into serving size chunks.
Then you put them in a well greased frying pan on low heat and cook them slowly until they are just done.
You will never use the entire beaver for bait again.
Goes great with beer.

I use mine, fresh- no taint, "that's fresh frozen from the season before" for Fisher/Cat bait. Foxtail is correct, and produces some good stinkers the next day. lol

Before cooking...
boil the meat 10 minutes in water with a little baking soda. throw foamy water and do it again with new water and baking soda 5-10 min. rinse and cook it the way you want.

3 quarts of Beaver meat chunk or ground. 2 oz. fish oil 2 Beaver Castor's ground up. 3/4 teaspoon anise. 1 teaspoon asofoetida. 1/2 oz. tonquin musk. later in season try 3 quarts of Beaver meat chunk or ground. 2 Beaver castor ground or chopped fine. 2 oz. fish oil. 5 to 6 drops of skunk essence. hope this helps you out . I have a few more I'll have to look up if you are interested.

I'd put a little glycerine in the late winter. I've all so just used Beaver meat straight with nothing in it with good results. also as cameron2 said about the nelsons Bait solution. and also Paul Dobbins has a Bait solution that is suppose to be very good. there is a trapper on here by the name of coonDuke he uses it and really likes it. I'm going to try it my self this year. but CoonDuke can tell you all about it. maybe he will see this post and reply.

all this talk about eating Beaver Meat DJ if I would have thought of it at the time I could have saved us a bunch of clean fresh Beaver meat to grill and deep fry at the PTA this year. but maybe I'll have the time to clean and put up a bunch up for 2007. if you guys think it would be a good idea. I like snapper but that was bad last year. maybe beaver meat would be much better eating at the PTA picnic.

Larry,
If I can talk a couple of the Maine guys into coming to the PTA, we may be able to have some Beaver this year. If we worked on Bubcat, I know he has a couple or three freezers full of Moose and Caribou.
