I have been toying with the idea about making basswood beaver boards laminated on plywood for easier installation of nails, push pins, ect. I'm wondering if this would be a marketable item. HP

im not shure .. my first thougt would be that the size, shipping would restrick the price so much that it would be tought to make any money.. for me when im putting beaver on wood i use finish nails and a hammer ...so a softer wood wouldnt make any difference.... btw i checked out youre strechers at bobs and they are dandy very nice work ... jim

I don't think it would sell, we put up ours on 3/4" plywood 32"x48". Usually we put two smaller hides on one side and one big one on the other, so we always get at least two per section. So if you think about it, one 4'x8' pc of plywood could hold up to 6-12 beaver depending on size, so for $20 you can hold a lot of beaver, hard to beat!!!

I don`t think it would sell either, as the advantage of basswood is the use of pushpins easily. I and most use 3" finishing nails on beaver as that way we can tap with a hammer and pull the same and use the nail to pull or stretch the hide uniform at the same time we hammer . beaver are just too big and heavy for easy push pin use.

We don't have any places around here where we can by 3/4" plywoood for $20. Most people I know don't use push pins for beaver. The 2" finish nails for tacking a beaver would go in and out a lot easier. And considering the amount of nails used this could be an advantage. This wouldn't be an item to be shipped, but it could be sold at a rendezvous. HP

HP, Make a few proto types and see how it goes. It would not take long to get the feed back that you need to determine one way or the other. Shipping would be a detriment.
