ok i know we have alot of mink knowlege on here. so here is my question. if you have a blind set that is consitently taking muskrats at least one every other day and it goes cold do you leave the trap for probable mink catches or just pull up and move on? these sets i am talking about are tree root ball sets along a small creek

well if you have other traps in that creek close by i would leave it...but if it was out of the way to check it i would pull if i didnt want the bother of going out of my way to check....

I would leave them if it isn't out of the way, when I am mink trapping, the trap is usually set for the duration, unless of course I have taken what I feel I should from a particular spot.

leave them, by all means.
I never pull a rat set- after the rats go, its a mink set- and you might be surprized at the nomadic , mostly male rats you stil lwill catch.
I had one creek where I was popping rats regular for 3 weeks, no mink- then took 8 in 2 weeks-

Yes, as long as the structure doesn't change. Even then, I find that mink visit "invisible" structure for a few years after.
ANY set that takes a couple of mink, should be set up each succeeding year.

My BE sets kick in best once I get the rats beat back, it's not as much of a problem here as it once was as I have fewer rats to work with. I feel mink hunt harder when the rats are dead, and of course your traps are ready.

Im never sure about how much rats make up a minks diet, but I have always felt like you do bk, that mink hunt harder when the rats are gone.
my favorite set this year, in a btw- was where I found a perfect, 6 inch round, well worn hole going straight back under the bank behind some grasses at waters edge. Pulled grass up and saw it, immediately told Lori I'll guarentee a mink here. Took 1 rat first month, last 3 weeks took 3 BIG male mink from it.
