The only reason I place the dog at 6:00 and the lose jaw at the attractor Is I figure when a animal Is placing It's foot on the ground It's moving forward. I figure if i guide right, that foot Is moving toward the most sensitive part of the pan the part the farthest from the dog. Like T man said.

I agree will bob 100 % as what you got down the hole is good, you will catch him. I made some bait last year and caught 116 coyotes in 21 days. All this blocking how little could make a trap shy coyote shy, but if you use no blocking and set your trap right up at the edge of the hole dead center and have good bait he will be there waiting. If the smell is good the coyote will be waiting there no doubt.

while guidlng is blocking to a degree, the use of guides in no way "blocks" a coyote or shouldn't in anyway spook a cautious coyote. If a coyote is set shy, he's set shy and won't even work the set.
Im not one that believes in the 98%- you are going to miss coyotes if you trap coyotes. In a non stressed population ( and here I mean coyote population as stress) you have some coyotes that simply aren't interested- no matter what bait or lure you use. Again, a "benefit" of doing some snow trapping.
I've seen the same coyote walk around a set, and 20 feet away hes there. We've all had that if we are honest. We've also all had coyotes that walk up to the set, put their nose in the hole and thats it- on their way. Guiding makes him put that foot where it SHOULD go in such circumstances.
While we all want a lure that makes him dig, that makes him stall out for a period of tme- the best we can do is target the majority of coyotes the majority of time.

"the majority of the coyotes the majority of the time". maybe that is 85% in some areas, maybe it is 98% in others, that`s not the point. but there are attractors that do that, like the stuff huntingalonewolf was using. If I didn`t get " the majority of the coyotes the majority of the time", I`d be trying some other dope.

the majority of coyotes in the majority of time- isn't the same as saying that every coyote that walks by works the set and gets caught.
yes, there are attractors that do that- MOST of the time.
but not all the time- and I've used plenty of lures that promise to do it "all the time" and guess what- they don't.
and in any case- DOG position has little, I feel, to do with success.
