mmwb,do I have to thaw or can I layer it with salt while frozen? if frozen and layer it with salt is it going to pull all the juices out and make a big smelly mess or will the salt take care of that to?

grind it all up, it takes up a lot less space.

just layer it in 5 gallon buckets with salt. water and juices will rise to the top of bucket but that will not hurt. i do prefer rock salt as it makes it easier to get the fish out of bucket after sitting for a period of time. i did use table salt one time and after it sat all year it compacted pretty tight and was a pain in the butt to dig out. rock salt works much better
