wonder how many use their own baits and lures, or anything other than commercial stuff, I know i have tried several bait and lures, and have found none that could touch simply dropping a beaver oil sac down in the dirthole, I use them 95% of the time, just would like to know what else work really good.

Its tough to beat oil sacs......but on a longline they can get pretty hard to get.
There are several great lures and baits avaialable commercially that will catch coyotes, but for me it is also about what DOESNT appeal to non-targets .I like bait(or as TMAN says"THICK LURE")but I dont like rank bait unless it is really sharp smelling.I am anxious to try Brians cheese bait.By non-targets I mean cattle, sheep, horses and deer;there are lures/bait that do not draw these as well as some;on the other hand, there are some non targets who will molest your sets for any reason, they should be eaten.
For gland type applications,I use 2,one is tainted gland and one smells like you have a coyotes a$$ in your nose;both good in seperate applications.
Urine is good, and in some instances your only option, get good urine;it should be dark and reek.
Call-type lures are just that;curiousity,sex,agression,food........they can be made of several bases, but the most popular additive is skunk;nothing can ignore a skunk.
No lure bait or urine makes up for poor trap placement, ignorance of your target, weak work ethic or population lows, but when used wisely will increase the year-round season numbers dramatically;well worth the dollars per year investment.

Edge , it was a good post i appreciate it , however what i was really looking for, was something that is common place,or something obtainable from other animals off our trap line, "well i can't seem to find the right words" such as the oil sacs, that will really trigger a response from coyotes and make them work a dirthole aggressively, i have tried several comm. lures and catch coyotes with them, but have tried none that they will work like they do the sacs, maybe after readig agian and thinking about it you did give the answer i was looking for "skunk' and by the way i have found if you drain the oil sacs into a jar and save it when sacs run low , just pour oil over cut up beaver meat and a little glycerine and stir real good it works about as good.

on the line of what you are looking for- lightly tainteed vension scraps + cut up casotrs seems to be a top choice for all predators.

Oh,well,I aint that sharp;I'll try it again........
On my pack-in lines I started only with a grub stake of castor mixed with sac oil and some glycerin;this would yield other beaver, cats and mink.A mink leg down a dirt hole for canines is a gimme,I dont care where you trap. The meat and glands from these yielded canines;including fox who walk on 4 of the best yote baits ever, their feet. The canid glands(anal)are productive as well, and are not species specific;fox are not going to shy from yote glands. If you are unsure of gland locations, there is a post here somewhere that really spells it out. I doubt there are many animals that could not be caught on beaver or cat meat alone.
My previous answer was from a high production long line standpoint where only dead coyotes count;in that arena there is no time for gland collecting, meat cutting or general on-the-line concocting;thus I find it more profitable to use the lures/baits I can buy by the gallon from people who actually enjoy making them.

Steve and Edge , now were talking ,this is exactly the kind of thing i was looking for, definately want to try tainted deer and castor, and start saving my mink legs, as i buy some fur on a small scale, and have been throwing my mink carcasses away, thanks again , reckon at first i just wasn't asking right.

I've never saved mink carcasses, but have saved and used a mink gland many times.

**I've never saved mink carcasses,**
The back half works better than the front half, but they both work.
