Barricade your set and force the cat over the trap, do this before leaking so you pick up any "wet" sticks.

never trapped a cat- but you guys make it sound like its the easiest thing in the world if you got cats. Uncovered sets, lots of forcing guides, etc
TRue or not?

Kinda true Steve if you just look at the sets. Cats are very confident animals. They are great hunters and not really afraid of many other animals. Those big toms will travel all over coyote country and dare any coyote to take them on. I've heard them called stupid by other trappers because they are easy to get over a trap set most of the time. But at the same time, they can wander all around sets and pay them absolutely no attention. A guy needs lots of sets IN THE RIGHT LOCATIONS. But define easy? I think coyotes are very easy to catch also. If I used a great food bait, I'd catch a lot more coyotes in my exposed trap sets. Their bellies seem to run their lives and when they get hungry, they get careless. They run all over the country looking for food to catch or steal. A trapper just uses different techniques for each, match the style to the quarry. Cats are trained snipers, proud stealth hunters and coyotes are gang bangers! (just having some fun here )

Steve W.,
That's the best way I've heard yet to describe the difference between coyotes and cats.

Rifles and shotguns.
Cats aren't smart but that doesn't necessarily make them easy.
I think coyotes are easier in many respects because they are smart they are also fairly predictable.
They also put their feet down a lot more.

I was hoping though! ;D I guess we can't complain about Nevada, since they are so liberal on the numbers we can catch.
