The reason I ask is some say money doesn't play into trap decisions and I say it does to some extent with all trappers, thats why we have so many foriegn made traps to keep cost down, The reason Duke sells a buttload, the reason Bridgers are highly sought after and the reason people who build the cadillac traps need a skeleton crew to make and assemble there traps is more price related than anything else, due to many factors fur prices, gas prices and total equipment cost. So for a snap shot in time ALL traps cost the same what would you purchase?

I'll admit that my vote went to the TOTALLY modified rather than the Cadillac.I've used the MJ600 and I hate that trap. It's the pan system that I don't care for.Call me old fashion but I STILL prefer a dog......reinforced yes........but still a dog.

I voted softcatch, but only due to my unique situation. so maybe not relavent to the question at hand. also would depend if I was in the people infested east or the remote regions of the west. so even this poll can`t reflect an accurate answer without knowing more- where, when, and for what purpose?

Traveler what about the sterling trigger/ pan don't you like? It is bullet proof and coyotes can't harm it in anyway and constant pan tension that doesn't change as long as you keep the gun notch in good shape.
Bob If you need: for coyote trapping dead coyotes East/west not live market.

TC37......seems like I can't set this trap with my hands and hook up the pan system at the same time.

too many feral dogs and cats and off targets in the east that should be killed, but need released with good feet instead. the jake is not made for release of anything. in spite of an excellent rubber system, preventing cutting or bone breaking, every animal in them needs killed. jakes are more substancial as to john deere catches and such, better runbber system than victor, just too strong for eastern work.

TC37, a lot of coons make their way to yote sets around here, all the offsets I have had in the past let a small % of the coons walk away. I know this is a yote trap thread but coons are part of my yote line here. Jeff

regarding coon in big traps....they seem to be buried in the trap and going no where.....but that is my specific setup.....not sure where guys are going with losing stuff on a 1/4" offset.....?? My pref would be a caddy...although I use more modified "cheap" traps due to theft concerns in certain areas.... Use what you feel would get the job done.... I would build myself "Sterling's" to use if I had time...also the theft factor......although Glenn might get in a fluff..not that I want to sell em....hell.. Caven did it...couple other guys used ideas also......heard I already got the "swivel" thing stirred... ;D.... Dont get me started..lol

I can see were you could loose some coons HMR but as you stated a low% and yes the sterling and others were made for coyotes !
Traveler you just need I guess to use them more, I have used sterlings for many years and find they set very easy, Just open them up hold with hands and I use my thumb and crank the lever over and have it all the way against the bottom jaw once you get it over you can hold it open fairly easy and then use my other hand to raise pan and I can feel the notch, a guy after awhile can set them in the dark or blind folded!!!! You can feel it set "in" on the notch. Bullet proof coyote trap in my book it don't get no better for coyotes.

My vote is for the #3 bridger , laminated with offset jaws. I've welded up the dukes but in my opinion the bridger is very good right out of the box for coyotes.

I like the #2 northwoods,1.75 victor or duke offset . Haven't tried the # 2 bridger's as of yet but there's two doz. out in the shop I'm debateing on . Duke offsets seem to have a bigger gat than the victors but are beefer from the factory. We have all kinds of critters running around here both wild and domestic . Haven't tried any #3 trap yet except stock #3 montanas and they are really mean on greys.IMHO
