I made one in the yard today just to look it over looks as said to be self blending and guideing, But what do you you with all that extra dirt? Had about 3 gallons left when I finnished, Is it discarded or pulled to the top to add to the backing or just raked out on the wide side and scattered all over for site appeal?

Dan, Primetime's post "on my way" has some good pics of a remake, between that and mmwb's link you can have a good idea what its all about. May be a little more time consumeing than my normal but could very well be worth it. Jeff

I read the link mmwb posted. From the description, it sounds like you put the trap in the back corner of a 2 ft long triangle. If I am thinking right, the trap would be almost 2 ft from the hole.
Am I understanding this right?

Wow, maybe you read something wrong. I've got a drawing of it, that I sent to Steve via email that I wanted him to "Approve" before I posted it. That way I'm not showing it wrong. So hopefully he will have time to look at it tonight or soon and let me know if it's correct.
But for know the dimensions from what I gather are.
Looking down at the hole. Hole being "top".
Top area of triangle 2" Bottom area of triangle 12" distance from top to bottom about 18 - 20".
Once you place the trap in the corner the pan ends up being closer to the hole so maybe around 15" and offset maybe about 2".
The hole goes straight back (10") and the reason the trap can be farther back. If the hole was more at an angle down the trap would then move closer until a vertical down hole would have the trap right at the lip per say.
Hope that helps.

primetime about summed it up. maybe not quite that narrow- but that will work. I'll look at his pic and also post a pic of a stepdown later on tonight

As promised a drawing of the stepdown set. These dimension will work, but do not need to be exact for the set to work. A tape measure is not needed in your trapping bag, bucket, or basket! ;D Picture must be to big... One Minute Lets try this!

Tman,
do you know what Matt Jones "cow proof" step down looks like ? If so how does your compare ?
Im thinking this set makes use of small traps very well.

One thing that I see that I would change on the picture. I like Steve's idea of putting the dog facing away from the hole. Since I starting do that, my dogs have been in much better shape after a catch. JP

Can this set be made prior to setting it up- trap ,lure , bait? or is the freshness of the set what makes it apealing to canines?

you certainly could set it up ahead of time- but I do feel the newness of the set helps
