Blackie gave a demo last year at the Indiana convention. If my memory is right, he put a half ounce of bobcat gland lure in a pint of fox pee and used that for canines. Personally, I have never tried it.

I too like to keep my odors separate at a set. I'm a firm beleiver in keeping him there and I believe different points of interest does that. But a gland /urine smell or a skunky/urine smell will of course take a lot of yotes. OK Steve....give me the difference between urine usage...and gland lure usage.....what does urine offer...that glands dont offer...or vice versa....I hold firm on the mixing of both of these....or maybe reddy red...and Leggets are wrong...(not sure about reddy red)...I just need some more imput...WHY would one have to separate the gland smell...from the urine smell...are they that "different"...or in the same class...inquiring minds...GOTTA KNOW!!!! ;D later lynx

ya, they are different, but the key is they are 2 different smells in 2 different places, not one common smell in one place. would you catch fur doing it either way?, why sure you would. would you get less misses (tracks and no catch) doing it one way over the other? I think so. It`s all about return on investment of time. takes about 2 seconds ( not minutes) to squirt out of 2 different bottles in 2 places 6" apart. goot trade lootetant!, as the indian in "dances with wolves" would say. Oor if you think it`s not a good trade, then don`t do it.

I'm "comfused" kemosabi....SOOO....glands are the "animal smell"...AS are urine...now...I'll take it easy here and type R E A L S L O W...so all of you AND Bob can understand.....cat gland at a CAT SET makes the cat thing another cat's been there...AND cat pee at a CAT SET makes the cat think another cat's been there.....now if there appears to be a DIFFERENCE here as to WHY one is better than the other..OR why both wouldnt be better than just one......PLEASE go into detail for those of us that dont understand the difference between a tomato..and a tomato......OH and please type slow so as to convey your response appropriatly... later lynx

Two completely different smells...uirne doesn't smell like glands, glands don't smell like uirne...two distinctly different smells...in my way of thinking at least.

what questions?
lynxcat says:
give me the difference between urine usage...and gland lure usage.....what does urine offer...that glands dont offer...or vice versa....
Is this in response to something I said? If so, What?
only point I said- was COMMERCIAL gland LURE at a set was in no way "natural".
And that a DIRTHOLE- unless baited with a gopher and a tuff of anus hair from another yote- is a CURIOSITY set- nothing more, nothing less.
If I said otherwise, show me.....

couple thoughts:
blackie's ISTA demonstration mixed bobcat gland lure with bobcat urine, not fox urine.
if your lure bottles are getting wet and the labels peel off or otherwise get unreadable, start before the season and wrap clear plastic packaging tape around each bottle to protect the paper label from the destruction.
i keep the lure smells separate and may use as many as three at a set - stinky bait in the bottom of a dirt hole, beaver castor on a cotton ball 4or5" to the side of a dirt hole, and something real loud on the other side of a dirt hole. i perceive that it gets them sniffing and pacing around a little, like was typed above by another trapper.

ok, let me try again. scenario- you are 20 again and bar hopping for dames 1 year illegal to the 21 drinking age. you cruise into a new bar and disco and there are 2 identical drop dead georguos women with the come to me honey look. both 5`6" and leggy, both flaming red hair and make up and mini skirts with a low low cut top. both drinking bacrdi rum and a tad tipsy. Identical except one has blue eyes and one has green eyes that shine like emeralds. and , er, a, one has perky parts and the other has cantalope parts, big cantalopes! they are both sitting at the bar on adjoining stools talking and flirting around. so, you going to visually check out each one (i.e. BOTH) or what? maybe get lucky and they are real close buddies, you know, do everything togather!
