after you make/remake a dirthole
pack it out? throw it a few feet into the brush? spread it out by your dirt hole for added eye-appeal?

I just fling it in the air. Wherever it goes it goes. ;D

All of the above- depending on my mood and the day....
you can do whatever you want with it- it really doesn't matter- but keep in mind the extra dirt can be a good visual.

Depends on the set I am making, small dirt hole with the auger, I usually fling it, big loud dirthole, I will pile the dirt a few feet from the set, as T-Man said, VISUAL!!

I'm similar to Dirt-Duke...I Fling it behind the set, sometimes I fling it in front of the set, I'll take both hands and spread it around the set... I didn't have many toys when I was growing up... Dave Z

I got to thinking about this at a dirthole the other day. I remember the books/magazines I read as a kid saying to pack it out. The old timers didn't want any extra dirt laying around outside their perfect > shaped dirthole. Unless it has blood on it, I usually leave it at the hole. and my dirtholes come in all shapes and sizes, with a tight step down in the right place

I don`t "do" anything with it. Just get it out of my way the easiest and quickest I can. Usually throw it between my legs like a dog digging a hole. As often as not I go get more dirt right next to me with in reach to get good pushable mud instead of the set mud!

caught two greys this week at sets where I just pushed the extra dirt to the side out of the way. the only dirt I folled with was the dry dirt I shifted on the trap and three stepping lumps
since I catch a hellof a lot more greys than reds (population numbers aside) are reds more "dirt conscience" than greys? do the reds want a "prietter" set?
my remakes are butt-ugly, but they catch the greys

mike, all the canines love dirt, out of place dirt, in place dirt, smooth dirt, rough dirt, fried dirt , dry dirt, upside down dirt. The only thing I have seen is they don`t like to step in soup mud, especially the northern or hi country reds due to the long fur between the pads getting balled up in mush.

I do just like Bob. While digging the patern and hole, I just pull it back between my legs and put the best stuff in the sifter. Throw some peat over the trap sift a fine layer of dirt over it and rough up the pattern some. Toss in a couple guides, move some dirt over my knee-pad imprints, and I'm outta there.
By the way: none of my sets are pretty, I think they look too un-natural.
