So this is the next question, who uses bait and lure at remakes and how do you use it?
I make most all remakes into food oppurtonity sets hole set, flat set ,buried bait set, or a step down . I use what ever bait and lure that I did when I made the set ( if it was a bait set to begin with)I write this down when I make my sets.
I will remake into a post set once in a while , I kinda just arrange all the ground duff in a V and set the trap at the point with galnd lure under the duff and a little urine.
I like to make remakes bait sets cause I think it just adds to the interests that are already there, the whole place reeks of urine and glandular smells and then we have this bait smell, hmmmm,
I also seem to better luck on stepdowns as remakes than any other, I don't know if its the forced guiding or they just work them harder, but I suspect its the guiding and that he has to step down if he wants to work the hole.....B.....

I gave up bait a couple of years ago- but I always relure my remakes.
When I make sets- I write down what lure and what type of set. If I need to relure a set before a catch is made, I will relure it with the same lures in the same holes.
At a remake- no matter what the animal- I make it back either 1 of 2 ways- if it was a stepdown, I remake it back into a stepdown. I too have very good luck with stepdown remakes. If its any other type of set- I remake it into an exaggerated walkthrough. I do this by piling up duff both where the backing was and the dog guide was. The backing duff goes into a 2-3 foot loaf- about 4-5 inches high- tapering on the edges. Make this look ike a boomerang- with the bow towrds the front. I do the same to a lesser degree by the dog guard. The walkthrough looks like a "bowtie". I lure the backing mound at each end- and at this point I don't care what lures- the whole area reeks as you said, so I don't care what type of lure I use- I just want a couple of focal points-

Remakes depend on the animal. Red fox, I will usually just remake the set into what it was before. I will add just a few drops of attractor. I will give the set a heavy shot of urine. Coyotes, if I remake them it will be a flat set with just a dab of lure for a focal point. For me, I am miles ahead to pull a trap that has caught a coyote and make a clean set close to the circle. I am not a big time coyote trapper by any strech of the imagenation but in my opinion, in my area a fresh set is a better set. Mac

I almost never relure/rebait remakes. After reading your posts, next year I'll try bait at a few. I pretty much gave up bait a couple years ago as well, but I still have an unopened jar of Hawbaker's fox bait in my fridge.
After a catch I scratch up all the duff into a semi-circle, re-dig the dirthole, and place the trap back in its original bed at the opening of the semi-circle.

Like Mac said for fox, I usually lure the remake set with the same lure. As far as urine goes, i normally have 1 set always without and the other set with urine + lure. i normally add urine like usual.
On coyote, after a catch, I reset the same trap and try to remake the same set and if its impossible, I just change the hole set for a flat walk through for example but anyway, if after 3-4 days I did not collect, I will have to pull the trap because of rust, as it is very wet around here. Than I put a new set nearby with a clean trap.

For remakes I just scrape up all the debri and put it in a pile where the hole was, then dab some straight mink gland just under the front of it,then set and bed the trap.

i`ll remake a dirthole back into a dirthole if the set is not completely destroyed, same bait, no urine and bobcat gland lure on the (clump of grass) backing. i`ll add a new grass clump if the one i used is gone.
if the set is torn up, crapped up, urined up and a mess it`s a walk thru with yote gland lure and a small wallowed out with a trap stake hole with another lure and i dont care what, just what ever is on top in the lure bag.

Remake with a dirthole, usually good commercial bait only in the hole.

I rebait and relure my sets after a fox, bobcat,or coyote catch.I just do it like I did when I made the set, same amount of lure smeared around the upper lip with bait in the hole.No need for any more lure because they usually urinate all over the set site so your good to go on the urine on remakes.
