I tap all mine in the head with a 22.And to keep the blood off the pelt when I skin it,after I rinse the blood off, I just pull an old sock over its head then skin him.It works pretty good. For those last minute escapees or late comers that havent quite got to my set when I show up,I carry my .243 in the truck, for when they take off, they usually have to stop and look back once, they cant resist it seems.

I got a gallon of yote urine I'll trade for a bottle of Jose' Cuervo. Sounds like the tequilla is the better attractant! ;D

Tap on the nose and a hard rap with ball bat to underside of neck. One good hit and they are done, they don't flop around and completely bloodless. I don't know what that does to them but heart heart goes 90 miles a hour and then it just slows down and stops. First time I ever did it i was afraid to take it out of the trap , now I take out of the trap immediately and by the time it is reset they are done. Jim

Whenever I shoot something in the head my bleeding problem only starts once I skin out the head. Besides wrapping it in paper towels, does anyone have a special method?

Very carefully ;D
I shoot all my yotes behind the front should after a love tap on the nose.
If they will let me rub the snout with Mr. Easton.
I have found that head shooting canines is a pain. Way to much blood. Plus it is a pain getting it out of the ears and snout and all facial features. Behind the shoulders they dont bleed as bad and it is easier to washout.

I've been a head shot man but I'm going to try the tap and rap method if it looks like a good secure hold. No offense, but I'm a Louisville Slugger type of guy.

I have always shot them between the eyes and about an inch back, they go down quick without any thrashing, and I have not had much problems with blood.

I shot one twice last year between the eyes and he just staired at me.Shot him behind the shoulded that took him out. After he expired I looked at his head it had a skinned place alittle high. I ckecked the shells in my HR99 I had dug some old non coated lead shells out of my truck console no telling how long they had been there. Thet were weak no power much.

22 short behind shoulder for yotes, normaly does best & less mess for me.Of course I save most skulls & a couple real purdy coyotes even goes to markets where a bad head isnt wanted.
(fox are choked ,no holes & bigger coon gets 22 between eyes)

Been there done all that! lol! tried head shooting with .22s short, long rifle and the weakest 22cb. They all worked but with the 22lr too much blood for me the 22cb inconsistent kills many multiple shots ...the 22 shorts are probably the best. BUT you still have blood problems...I have used a very efficient no blood(most of the time) method for a number of years now. Nose knock your WELL CAUGHT coyotes(if poorly caught you are risking a pullout ...shoot'em) then flip over grab the muzzle and use a piece of strong but thin steel and hit the throat area hard a few times. Thats it...no blood and quick death...again most of the time...its not perfect but close. LONG CHAINS equal more exciting times trying to nose knock...lol

MChewk We are on the same page except I use a bat for the tap and the rap. Then if the dog is bent , lay it on the bat and its a 3 second job to straighten with my yoho. Hind foot catch does make it more exciting. Jim

I kind of held back on this one. I have a total bloodless fast humane way , but it looks really bad to an untrained person, i.e. the general public. We even filmed it to perfection for my dog line video but elercted to leave it out as it just looks bad but is probably more humane and fast than any method ,other than a direct cranial skull shot and immediate massive brain trauma. This method allows skull sales and also taxidermy sales. I hog snare him around the head and lay him on his side and with one hand pull the top front leg anterior to expose the total chest and rib area. One sharp and hard heal to the chest directly posterior to the shoulder blade will do him in "in a heart beat" It does one or all of the following: ruptured diaphragm, totally blown out heart, total stoppage of electrical impuses to the heart chambers- thus ceasing beating , and also collapsed lungs. For a second he just lays there. In 2 seconds he rolls his head back, eyes roll back in his head and his tail starts to twirl. By the time you can get the hog snare off and the trap off the foot he is stone cold dead like he got hit by a lightning bolt and nary a drop of blood anywhere. And I weigh 160 if I`m am dressed heavy, 155 naked. This is all a 10-30 second operation depending on how fast you can hog snare him and flip him on his side. The most humane , fast bloodless kill I have ever seen. I should have left it in the video as it is most impressive. I will be lucky if when my time comes I can leave this earth so fast and humane.

I`ll have to try that throat rapping deal this winter and see how I do on it. Never know, might have just heard a way I like better. Only thing I like about my way is my foot is with me all the time anyway, no need to carry a re-rod or bat or whatever. But I`m going to try it next time I am doing some in. I think I would hogsnare them first anyway instead of nose rap ,as the nose rapping will break the snout bones and then I lose my $2 head. Heck, nafa bought a couple thousand whole coyote hides for $2 or less the last sale , so can`t lose my head along with my arse too.

Tried tap and stomp , tap and body slam , 22 to head or lungs. Best way for me is tap and 2 raps to throat with axe handle. Tried it with a trappers helper last year. 2 of them to be exact............SNAP
