Thats it Edge, peat on the bottom, just a very fine layer of dry dirt over, to hold it in place.

many times i have rolled up to southern states or the garden center where they keep peat in bales on pallets under roof in bone cold weather and bought a bale and had it on coyote traps the same day. most times it`s plenty dry to use. every now and then you get some with a damp corner or something.
you dont have to go thru some magical ritual with it, just buy it and use it. i run thru about 2 13 dollar bales a week sometimes not that much if i`m pounded in and no rain.

if it is bone dry, right on, I never take it out of the bale till I use it and just pick out what sticks and etc are in it as used. Use wet baled peat tho and it freezes same as wet dirt. The key is it just has to be bone dry to work. Pre sifting is like sniffing lures in the summer, just stuff you do because you can`t wait till season to be doing SOMETHING trapping related. I am scheduled for a demo at the ista fall meet this september. It is all going to be on peat and will blow your minds , so take it in if in our hoosierland at the time.

woody, we would love for you to join the ISTA, but not necessary. ANY state association or nta membership is acceptable to get in, ANY. I just want to know anyone gaining is at least doing their part SOMEWHERE. Also, kids under 16 are exempt from the members only criteria. So only way you can`t see it is if you are an adult that is a member of nothing. But, ;)we won`t pay you to attend!
