Steve, To answer your question, no. I don't have a problem setting on location. Like you said: getting them to visit the set is not the problem, but getting them to set a paw on the pan can be a bit unnerving at times. I have learned some things on guiding from you folk, so hopefully I will have a better visit to catch ratio this year. We shall see. We seem to have a good number of coyotes in my area , so finding tracks and scat is no problem. One guy said finding the spot within the spot is what he does. (sounds like a bass fisherman) To me that is where good location intesects with other good location or TRAVEL ROUTES. bingo!! Got one. Mark

My trap selection for k-9's are dogless montgomeries in #2,#3 and #4's.What size would you use if there is a possiblity of catchin a dog or a red fox.We have a leash law in jefferson county but I still catch a couple of dogs every year.

You will be ok for sure with the #2s, on the 3s, you might want to make sure the jaws are filed smooth, and then I would say OK most of the time, #4s No way!!!

HI Trapperman,my name is NEPISIQUIT which means rough waters in Micmac. I am a new member on this site and have realy enjoyed what i have read so far.In New Brunswick Canada where i am from coyotes have been highly sought after by the average trapper and have almost reached the University stage of smarts. My question for you or others who may have experience is : Can coyotes be taken along trails boardering a stream or river where the overstory of trees are large spruce and fir and once away from the river a short ways the cover is rough and thick fir? I have had good luck in these areas with snares but have not tried traps In the winter i see lots of coyoye sign in these areas. Any experience here? BY THE WAY: The Nepisiquit is a fine salmon river. THANKS GREAT WORK.

Wecome- but I am not sure I understand the question. Since oyu are snaring there- coyotes are there.
Are you snaring in snow- and wonder if the coyotes would be there earlier during bare ground?

That,s right trapperman.I am wondering about two situations, Could they be there before the snow? Likely hard to say without trying eh? I was mainly interested to see if yourself or others had experience in trapping for coyotes in deep woods or along game trails such as the location that i described in my last post. ( NO SNOW )
