The easiest thing to do to catch more canines is to live and trap in the best population densities. I almost bet that if I moved to Maryland my fox catch would greatly increase. A good population will out trump prefect location any day! Now if that doesn't count as the silver bullet answer you wanted and for most of us moving somewhere else is not an option than I guess you better set on the best locations available where you live.....

I have not trapped many canines to date. If I were and I am piple dreaming to get more caninies in Wi where I live. it would be time to find the tracks in the snow and develop a good snow setting and bedding system and run the long routes where they are moving to and from. Bryce

I would tell a young trapper to learn to read sign first. Then after that is mastered follow the basics and work hard.

Seems hard to argue with Stef's approach, not to discount other replies. Every thing equal, 75 traps outperforms 50 traps outperforms 40.

Learn location and learn to read sign-put those two things together 1/2 the battle is over. Lure type/set type/ trap type as long as its functional equipment are secondary to good location and sign.
