I have a nutria removal job for a community and due to high population of geese and pets I have only been able to set den entrances. To date I have only caught two and the man that hired me is not impressed due to the fact that residence have seen 5 at a time before I started.
The sightings have stopped, sigh has stopped, no more fresh digging.
Any recommendation from anyone having experience trapping warm weather nutrai. Thank you.

Find the food source , pull a few up and clean the roots, and make your set in front of them.

1) When 5 were sighted were there several young?
2) Did you catch a pair of adults? The young can often be cleaned up pretty quick by predators of if the adults have been caught.
3) Out in the water away from shore look for any stumps, downed timber or other projections sticking up out of the water that the nutria like to set up on and set these areas. Use a foothold trap (3 feet of chain) with an attached window sash weight (close to the trap) to take the catch down under the surface. You can generally find locations that the turtles and geese don't use but the nutria do.

I located the den and caught a large female and a smaller male.
I set several 1.5 with chain once I identified that the food soure was the elaphant ears in one end of the cove.
No more activity after the two were caught.
Also no sent post, resting spot or other signs like we have in the river could be found I serach the entire property. Also the absence of toilet sites at the main damn lead me to believe that one pair may have been it. I hope for now.
Thanks for the reply

I have considered that the meat looks exactly like rabbit only smells cleaner when skinning that say a rabbit or other animal.
