Just wondering how many guys trap full time doing ADC work live in rural areas? Most people here( town of 2000) have a problem they'll buy a live trap for skunks, coons etc. or just shoot them not many will call on guys to do this. We're starting to get a skunk problem here and trying to decide how much to charge and how to go about picking up some of this business. any info would be great. Dan

Rural areas aren't going to pay the money for the reasons you mentioned. But I';ve decided that "a problem is not necesarily my problem" so since its work I don't really want, I charge for it, Most tihnk its too high...and thats fine.
but for beaver out of season- is $100 setup , $100 baver. Only companies call me o nthis, and they are glad to pay.
cooytes- most to cheap to pay, , but iys $125 set up, $100 coyote and I get a few cvalls a year.
skunk- rare case, cause they are all over and its just life here- $75 set up, $75 per.
Its slow going to get started in a small rural town- but at least you are only game in town. Talk to dnr, put flyers at feedstore, ads in local shopper are cheap- and keep your name out there.
not counting gophers, my other adc work is under $2000 a year... just no demand for it.

We will break $60k again this year easy. The nearest city is about 50k people. most of our work is in town. Very little rural for the reasons you listed.

Dan, 95% of my nuisance work is in the large metropolitan area about 25 to 45 miles from me. Half hour to 45 minutes to drive but the customers are most often willing to pay my inspection fee which covers both my mileage and time. I have a 60 mile grid marked out and determine my inspection/appraisal fee by plugging the address of the customer into MapQuest on the computer. It tells me the time and miles and my fee is determined based upon that. People in big cities don't have the time nor knowledge to deal with wildlife problems so are willing to pay to have them removed. As has been referenced, rural areas are used to taking care of their own wildlife problems and most jobs I get or take are at a lesser rate then the big city jobs. If you want to make money dong ADC you usually need to focus on the biggest populatin density closest to you. JL
