Tman use belisles and you NEED a setter! Setters just make life easier for getting critters out as much or more so than setting a large coinbear of standard strength , but the mag types one just plain needs a setter for any number of traps,

I agree- reason I started using them was in taking beavs out of 330s- glad I had started carrying it with me when 2 years ago stepped into a 330 set for otter- don't leave the truck without thme know whether for 220s or 330s

Setters make trapping much easier and safer. Got a handful of rat traps to pull today and that's it at least until spring beaver. Over four months with at least of few traps out. A good season with the poorest prices in years. Got a bunch of fur at Nafa hope they do better . Local buyer is buying so cheap right now it has me thinking about looking elsewhere in the future. Groenwold still seems to paying ok to some guys from reports I've seen. But I'll ship the rest and look toward next year. Hope the bottom end coon get sold out of this system. Rather see NAFA hold the 200000 good golden traingle coon and get the poorer sections out of storage and be done with them.

did you pick up many late season mink? I was starting to pick them up when I pulled, but at the prices hard to get too excited about them and keep at it
and even coon- last couple of weeks was doing ok, at that was with minimal lured sets, but at the price, and wow the tuff grade, again, could "make" more money staying home.
sad thing is- my 1 bright spot on the coyotes- my highest average ever- I'm thinking isn't going to be too bright too much longer-
lots of things got to happen, to make next year better than this

Think coon market is shot for a few years period. The next sale will tell us what we have In store somewhat, but the coin market will be off a lot until Russia has a outrun in its economy. If one is coon trapping for money only I wish them the best next year.
Gas will be a major factor if it stays at or below 2.50-2.60 people will still trap insome numbers but if gas goes 3.00 or more we will all have a lot of ground to work without worrying about others.

Breeding season closing in I guess, Mink I think will be better than coon at NAFA, Wiebke was paying 12 dollars for putup 4x clean leather coon. No thanks. Wonder how deep the coyote market is.? There will be canine trapping interest in the fall. Maybe a good time for coyote dvd sales Steve. Hope you sell a bunch. Being a free trapper one needs all the perks we can get. Noone knows about next season could be a lot better or even worse. All just a huge question mark.

the harvest on "good" coon has to be low this year- the warnings were out there that coon prices were going to be low, and quite a few guys waited a bit, or ran smaller lines- then for pretty much the entire Upper midwest early november was snow, bitter cold and more snow. my local guy is a fairly big player fur including coon and he told me his buying of furs was across the board down 40% or more. So if nothing else, the high end of them arket you would think would be cleaned out, in any case, the lower harvest isn't going to hurt-
I do find it odd that people are getting so upset over a $4-5 rat- I'll take that for rats any day of the week. lots and lots of years I sold rats for under $3- what hurts is $12 mink, and $10 coon.

I think if I could lock coon in for ten dollars green straight through junk out , next fall I would. On coyotes I'm guessing Nafa is going to have them coming out of their ears the next couple sales. Thinking nationwide a lot more people running around shooting and snaring them. Ten here, ten there. but probably a lot of junk coyotes as well.

600,000 coon on this next sale..........
Down this way the harvest was not off 40 percent coon is a major fur here and I know in Iowa guys still with good numbers sold as well.
The MTA fur auction sale had 4,400 coons on it as well.
While our coons not that of NE Iowa,SD or portions of Minn our northern Missouri coons are a fairly good coon. I trap dry land coons and take some very nice ones in this area.
The issue being the price of course. What happens with those 600,000 will set up for next year .
I also, understand quality fur has value but it still has a top end when the supply line is slowed down.
the grading could end up being much tougher as well.

never used a conibear setter until 4-5 years ago- now I use it all the time- should have used it years earlier! I guess that you didn't have Belisle traps! Even the 120's are tough to set as the springs aren't very long.
