FWS nice PRO France article you pulled. GDP per capita? The numbers will be skewed due to the shear massive difference in people involved. Sorry not buying that one. You can sell it all you want. Higher standard of living because of the insane tax rates. I buy that I may live in a bubble But as musher put it and a few others I know who have been there and worked said their motivation for work has alot to be desired. They have become a nation dependent on large govt. Their public debt to GDP is 89.9 percent! The US even with our economic troubles is 72.5. Numbers again......... You step right on by the troubles they have in France and bring up only the positives of this great nation:). You see I like it here we have a choice if I want my kids can bring a sack lunch and feeding times isn't based on income here. Now their is an environment setup for excellent academic standards.

Also anytime you have a govt taking care of you in a large part human nature is to be less productive that is just the facts. I could list many examples that speak to that.

We drove from Paris to Stasbourg on the eastern border on our way to Germany a few years back. Some of the people along the way were stinky and unfriendly, but most were OK once you got away from Paris. I found plenty of good food to eat despite my lactose intolerance. The locals were very accomodating, and it was helpful to have my wife's cousin along who speaks French, German and English.
France is a great place if you are into European history. I wish I would have had more time in Paris, but most of our time was spent in Germany visiting my wife's family.
The European lifestyle is very different from our own. They don't seem to get too excited about work or material things, and much of their socializing revolves around elaborate meals with family and friends. We didn't see many obese people. The foods that they eat are mostly fresh and unprocessed.
One thing that I did notice is that there still seems to be a caste system. The working class accept their lot in life, and the wealthy are presumed to be born with a silver spoon.
Birth rates for native Europeans are declining, and many including my wife's cousins get some kind of government assistance or payments. Their biggest concern seems to be the competition for government benefits and jobs and the destruction of their cultures by legal and illegal immigrants.
