Out where I deer hunt, the land owner is having some coyotes come in close to the farm being that his livestock is calving. I know I can go out and try calling them in, but my ? is being trapping season is over, can I trap being there is no season on yotes. If yes what type of lure would work best

The rules and regulations regarding the trapping of furbearers varies considerably from place to place. We don't even know your location.
It would be best to contact your local warden for accurate information.
The land trapping archives are a good source of information regarding the "how to." Just remember that there is more to trapping than just setting a trap. If done incorrectly, you might capture things that you do not want to capture at this time of year. A fox or coon in a coyote trap in November is more fur money. The same animals in May are not.

Why not call, them in? You might be able to solve the issue in a few hours time? Calling is a very good tool for predator control. Can be much quicker than setting traps and maintaining them for a period of a week. A lot depends on are they killing calves or just eating after birth? How old are the calves? Locate at sundown and gauge how many by response.
AS musher said if you have a closed season on trapping you might need to get a special permit to trap, out side of season or some state might now allow it at all. Not knowing what state your in makes it hard for anyone to give you a good answer to the legal aspects of trapping out of season. frankly coyote do not need a a season placed on them for pursuit especially if causing issues to livestock or wildlife at this time of year. Selective removal can be accomplished for sure, meaning to remove the coyotes that are causing troubles.

Sorry I should of put that in musher. I live in lake city Mn. and I do know steve, I just not have time to get ahold of him to ask, so I figured his website would be best to get ahold of him, and hear others thoughts for what to use. trappincoyotes39 I do a lot of calling, or run hounds when I have time. The coyotes have not killed any calves, but the land owner don't want to take that chance. On all his fences around the his barn yard and pastures where that calving is going on he has blinking Red Lights about every 100 yards that are suppose the scare the coyotes off

coyote trapping is legal in Mn at any time
but regarding your land owner- I've only heard of 2 true times where coyotes actually killed calves- I ADC coyotes for farmers that are more worried, than affected by coyotes.
same lures and baits work at this time of year-
be aware you will catch every cat, dog, skunk, possum etc around
the blinking lights do nothing but make the night sky pretty

In smaller settings and land tracts and early in the spring you don't get the mass convergence that areas in the west do,as far as coyotes go.So yes I agree with Tman calf killing in the Midwest far more rare than it is out west. Different terrain and lack of human presence, much more livestock and timing and other factors all come into play but it happens more than twice a spring in the west.
yes little red light will do nothing either will trying to scare off coyotes using various methods. All coyotes have the ability to kill livestock but not all coyotes kill livestock and those that do well your not going to scare them away with lights, bells, whistles or many other things people have tried.

Any good bait will work well gland lures are a good thing at this time of year as well as urine. Thing is they don't mess around this time of year too and from the den mainly. Fall locations won't be location in May and June. Travels shrink a lot . if your looking for a name of a lure that works well now a few I like are 1-11 decoy, lenons all call, and rouge wolf is another good gland lure type as well.

thank you for the info, that is what I needed to know. I am just a beginner at trapping, and only have got a few. Its a rush when you walk out to a set, and notice, a yote trying to hide in the grass cause its been caught. Makes you feel great when you outsmarted that one.
