He e-maild me this winter about selling his furs locally. I don't know exactly when that was but right around the end of last year. He was using the name Muley on here I believe.

The Happy Plumber is here. This site just took away my identity and wouldn't give it back. I did have a drinking problem that affected my thinking capacity. A while back I quit drinking totally and haven't had a drop since. Had I not quit, I probably wouldn't be here today. Things are still going, but not as fast as they used to. I did manage to catch 39 coon last fall and got a great price on them. I did manage to harvest about 6000 board feet of basswood last fall that I am now using to build fur stretchers for Wisconsin fur. I will be going to the next rondy at Marshfield. I can't remember the date. I believe it is in July or August. HP

June 27-29 2013 is the FTA National Convention in Marshfield. Chris Bezio is Convention chair. Inside booths may be sold out but tail gate spots may be open for you to sell boards. Chris can be reached at 920-822-3727

I'd like to know how to give you your original handle back. Would Happy Plumber1 work?

Muley aka Happy Plumber , glad to see your back. Try and make the FTA rondy end of June. You will do good and lots of people are coming... i believe they had to open more buildings as the vendors are coming in from all over... Should be biggest FTA convention ever. Sounds like you got some good basswood to work with..... Thumbs up on your sobriety. Glad to see you got things in control... take care.

I am still building stretchers as I now have the wood to work with. Right now I am concentrating on Wisconsin Stretchers mainly as that is what I sell the most of. Southern and Western stretchers aren't a problem if the customer is willing to wait for me to build them and is willing to pay the freight. The Postal Department has had their problems with keeping their head above water. Muely

HP, are you going to make any wolf stretchers? Not going to be a big market but it adds some.

RdFx, I don't know about wolf stretchers. That would be almost as tough as making one for a bear. From what I have seen, I wouldn't want to tangle with a live one in a trap and no gun. I saw some really large stretchers this past weekend that could have been for wolf. I think you could have made two coon boards from one stretcher. A large waste of good basswood.

As it was only had 6 wolves to go on it..... It always happens that way.
Are you making any 8 inch wide otter boards? Our otters are just too big for 7 inch boards....

I don't know what the dimensions of the wolf stretchers are, but I am sure the waste on a 12 inch by 12 foot board would be considerable and the buyer would expect to have no knots or cracks. On conventional stretchers a manufacturer can work around knots and cracks which all wood has some after drying and sticking. I try to get the mast and the best stretchers out of the boards I saw. Quality stretchers are easy to sell. HP

Consider it a new market approach. Knots are only a problem on edges. Wolf pins are at 6 to 7 feet and the tail is separate pinning 8 foot length. Split boards are 3-4 inch width Boards are $50 range here for yukky spruce which no p

The other problem with wolf stretchers is size and mailing. The maximum size to mail is 72 inches. There aren't many wolf catchers that come to Wisconsin rendezvous. Years ago I traveled all over the country selling stretchers. HP
