Susan's golden and I did a little walkabout last week. Picked an area I haven't had time to tinker with yet and went lookin' to add on to next year's line. First hiked out to the river, and most of it's still locked up. A few eagles near the open water, and a pair of swans on the ice way downstream out of range of the camera. Came to a slough back in the bottoms with enough running water to keep some of it open. Found a stretch of about forty yards or so with enough otter sign one would believe they've been holed up here for quite awhile. On the right you see that large log laying on its side. When we got closer an otter scooted out from underneath it and slid into the drink. Plenty of sign up and down the bank. Now that's what I call a toilet! Must be comfy laying in that marsh grass under the log on these nice days. 'Coon have been moving good too. Otter paradise for sure . . .

Todd--weekend before Labor Day weekend again. Wanna help? We're camping at the clubhouse grounds Friday and Saturday nights. Musher--a few scales in the scat but I'm guessing there are quite a few bullhead in this stretch that goes into a small lake maybe 6 feet deep max. The few 'rat huts scattered along the shoreline all have holes 7" in diameter bored into 'em, otter really clean 'em out. The tree? A big 'un. Most of the trees down in the bottoms are maples, but there are a few oaks scattered about. I'm looking at the pic and I do think I see a few opposite branches, so I'd go with the maple. No forester here . . .

NIce photos and descriptions Mike. Always nice to see your posts with photos. Always seem to show up this time of year. Any plans for catching a few of those coon...or are they in a spot you/ll be trapping in the fall anyhow?

'coon season closed last Friday
I've still got maybe 3 dozen 'rat sets out. Got 18 of 'em last week. And that's about done.
