sold fur earlier this week, and the prices are pretty decent in my opinion.
on rats- measured a lot of them, and I had about 60% large, 30% XL and the rest kits and 2X. Averaged $11
coon- didn't have a lot- all caught the last warmup- $22.50 green these were all starting to get rednecks, and a little weak in the belly- if I would have had more, it would have been a tougher grade. All big coon
male mink $29, females $15- $4 for a very cotton male, $5 for a "little bit" cotton female. Averaged just over $20 on all mink. haven't had a cotton in lots of years- both caught on same location.
beaver- just had 2, both 2 year olds, got $25 for one, $15 for the other, both green
all done for year except I got one more rat line I want to run when it warms up next week.

Thanks Steve for the report
Yes Muskrats at $11 with pretty average or below average size is a good sign. Coons at nearly 23 green with some breakup starting is good news as well.

Almost spot on with what I got for my PA furs. My rats did a buck or so better. Mink and coon were identical, I even had a couple cotton mink that did the same.

mastermink- I hesitate to even post fur prices the last year or two, because i'm either a liar, or didn't get enough.
same for numbers-
if I'm talking prices, if just a few I state that as it might indicate a not true average, but if a good collection, enough to establish true averages, I dont as thats my business. Rest assured, the mink were enough for a true average.

i just sold 24 winter caught green coon from cat trapping and averaged $18.75 on them straight through. 2 were junk one had no underfur from distemper and one was about 4 lbs so throw those out and it was $20.46 but since i skin everything and count it all, it was $18.75 on green skun coon from the last week of november to the 2nd week of december, dryland coon caught in conis.

t'man... u know the way to prevent liar comments is to show us the bill of sale? ? No, I disagree. The best way to prevent liar comments is by not turning threads into something personal on this board!

I find that here, coon start being of good value mid oct, then gradually increase in quality through out nov, throughout dec and peak mid dec to mid january and then still have value into march IF rubbing is at a minimum. but for me here, sometime around mid jan they start getting red necks (not off colored coon per se, but nice colored coon starting to break down, and the first signs of that are the reddish cast on necks and rumps, and the wooly looking bellies aka early coon.
Fur to me is a harvested item, and MY method of selling coon, is to sell early and often- I think selling collections local, you do better overall, to sell whats "seasonable" during that time period. so rather than me bringing in all my coon at end of season- oct coon, nov coon, dec coon and jan coon- that the whole collection gets a tighter grade and that by him knowing the coon I bring in, has been all caught between last time sold and that day- cause I believe (and if some disagree thats fine) that bad apples in a barrel, make one look much harder at the other apples before eating....so to speak.
in any case-
I sold oct early nov coon for about $15 green, I sold mid nov to mid dec coon for $17-18, I sold late dec/jan coon for abit more and these last coon I was thinking $18 average
so was quite pleased with what I got. Again, it was a small quantity- and all 25lb and up, mostly up, coon.
my average on all 5 sales of coon, was, without precise math, most likely around $18 plus/minus and if I would have sold my fall, nov coon now I have no doubt thats the average I would get.
It does get silly seldom-
I hestitated in even posting what I got, due to happenings in previous posts- but to be honest, I thought it would be what an idiot for selling local, cheap, alseep, etc- not that I added dollars to the prices. Ksboy got his 2nd vacation in a month- next time its bye bye boy

There did not seem to be a just before the Holidays or just after the holidays correction this year. Things just kept moving up. Especially coons and maybe red foxes.
The FHA sale may have been the only small hiccup but their prices were on many medium, large and xl rats so that may not be a good indication at all. It did not seem to slow down any of the buyers and what they were paying for rats. The two buyers I talked with at our small sale felt that the FHA sale in their opinion was not a good indicator of fur prices or where the market is at. They watch the NAFA sale more and also a couple of the bigger Midwestern regional buyers.
