Picture taken on my "back forty" by the pond and cabin.....these gnarly beasts were hung on the pavilion we built recently. First time I will have coyotes on the early NAFA auction......my shortest season in a long time due to bad truck luck, crap weather at the wrong time, etc., but it allowed me to get my fur put up over the Holidays.......hardly a good trade off. But alas, it is what it is..... 16 days production in that picture for 98% of the fur (115 coyotes/24 fox).....did catch a couple fox and coyotes at the quarry over Thanksgiving, but then got rear-ended (in my truck!) and lost it to the repair shop for three weeks (119 coy/27 fox final total) Working title: "The season that coulda been.....wasn't" Still, did pretty good FOR ME during those 16 days with several personal bests......18 coyotes in one day being the most memorable. One of the nicest bunch of fur-coyotes I have accumulated......we will see if the NAFA Gods agree for the ones that did get pushed there. Prayers needed! LOL There's always next year! Zagman

I see you got yourself a few greys- is that normal?

10-15 greys a year probably........usually bust a couple family groups. Most of these game my last couple days....caught a couple Boone and Crocket greys that will be top lotters at NAFA, as their cousins from last year were.......
I think a guy could get a lot more greys around these parts......great habitat for them......cedar swamps, old grown over apple orchards, grape vine-filled hollows, are every where......maybe someday when I tire of coyotes I will start chasing grey fox a bit more......even though they fight you at skinning time around the neck and head, they are still easier than a coyote, and worth more!

You might have to build a bigger pavilion.
Lots of hard work in that photo. I hope NAFA pays off.
Is one of the dogs wearing a vest?

Great catch and well handled. Sorry to hear about your vehicle. I trust you are OK.
One question with all the canines and dry land how are you keeping the coon catch so low? Do you practice coon avoidance some how or are you in an area with few coons?

I'm trying to figure out if it is easier to get two dogs or my two kids to pose for a catch pic...
Great season. Next season the key to increasing the catch would be a spare truck!

All three mutts in the pic are wearing vests!
First year in five or six years with no black coyotes.
A farm where I catch them all the time had TWO of them this year.
I had just set the farm up specifically in the hopes of catching them....and my truck broke down the next day.....so I only have one check at that farm!
Opening Day of gun season occurred 8 days later......and at least one of them got killed opening day by a deer hunter......I saw the pics. Broke my heart!
Bryce...in 1990, the rabies came up the coast from MD and wiped out our coon.....I mean, they were all gone. They are fighting their way back. So, NO, I do not avoid them on purpose.......they just ain't here.
I don't really care to catch them in my coyote sets any way, but they are certainly worth peeling when I do......if we had a normal population, I'd say I'd probably catch 40-50 in that same time frame.
Trapping coyotes is not a way to get rich.....so having a spare truck would not help my balance sheet in that regard!
49er.....no plans right now.....only 4 hours for me............and Phil and I talked about going, but that would be May. With my fur on the Feb auction, does not seem to make as much sense to go in May. If I had 1000 rats or fox there , I'd be there!

Very nice Mark
Western coyotes should do well at the next sale but I am not sure about eastern coyotes.
You will get for your foxes as much or more than half your coyote catch.

I like your pics Zag. Put's me in mind of the old New York guys and their catalogs and books that I read when I was a kid.
Don't think they had coyotes in those days.
