This is my first year trapping and have caught 1 Bobcat using cage traps. I have been using otter meat and pig liver for bait and have wondered about smelly lures. Any ideas?

I don't use cage traps but skunky lures seem to work the best on my dirt holes! Braveheart on this sight has a minty lure that I have had success on also! But I would say yes to using lure!

Yes, I would definitely use lures with bait in the cages. Strong skunky lures, strong castor lures, cat gland lures, or any type lure that they like to rub on, like Jameson's Sierra Mist, work great in cages. Good urine helps too.

Washington, Can't hound hunt, trap with body gripping traps or snare, but they would love to take our guns

Mothman, due to most cat's finicky, don't-give-a-damn attitudes, it is a good idea to put 2 or 3 different lures in the cages. That gives the picky cats a choice. One lure might not turn him on but the other one might. Never know with cats...
I prefer traps and snares too, but a cat is a sucker for a well placed cage trap. Sometimes it seems like they just can't help themselves and have to go in the cage...especially double door traps

From some testing data Im privvy to, by a hell of a cat man who also keeps 20 head or so for urine collection every year, I would say GOOD, REAL bobcat urine would trump about any lure. Not saying I wouldnt use a lure, but in priorities lineup, find ya a good cat urine is where I'd start.

do not put any kind of gland or curiousity lure in front of the trap pan.... ever.... the cats will rub it... on the pan is ok.... but behind the pan is best.....
