Buddy of mine called to share the following:
Rats: $17 tops, $13.75 ave, $11 low
'Coon: $45 tops, $30.21 ave
Beaver: $71 tops, $36 ave
I know the 'rats were 100% clearance, not sure about the other two. Also total number of each unknown, but to say the least, he's very happy.

Tight range on rats so that means decent size falls, winters etc. will sell well. Wish it would not have gotten so dry in my trapping areas this year but then if they are up a buck or two I will get about half or more of the difference back. If those were northern coons with a $30 average then that is helpful also. My fur went on the NAFA truck Monday expect for 10% that is going into our district fur sale this Sunday. Bryce

In this day and age it's amazing how antiquated fha is when it comes to websites and releasing info. How hard or costly could it be to get up to date with the rest of the world? . Have a few beaver up there but can't even get on my account right now. After their June beaver sale. never again but I guess you never can say never.

Two biggest reasons I won't sell to fha is their rebate program and their slow as molasses computer system.

It does seem strange or odd that in the modern world a firm would not be able to have almost a running average value or price for fur that is sold. One could do a lot with just a simple Excel Program to my way of thinking. Maybe we are a bit too in the moment in the World today. It is nice however to get results back really quickly. The $11-$12 averages quoted seem to be in line with the averages that we hear and read from trappers selling to local and regional buyers. I am not as interested in the tops say the best rats or best coons I am interested in what prices are 29- to 32 inch average color 1-11 grade North central coons moving at? That is an average, average minus coon in our area and if they are moving up that brings the average up a lot.

Yes if you are catching winter shear-ables now I would hope you are getting 14-16 bucks for decent rats. If these are a combination of northern rats, falls good and average etc. then $12 average would probably be in the ball park but yes if that is the average and buyers want say 10-20% margins rats that are average may well see some price resistance. Not low prices mind you but not high.
Last year my early rats with about 16th northern WI ear-lies averaged $11.63 b4 commissions. My later December rats averaged $14.94 for a $12.19 average. I am hoping to do better this year with fewer rats but not as many early falls or mediums and large rats.

I don't think we get very much of a premium for winters rats at least not like in the past. The main deal is size. I do remember last year at this time the rat market got weaker. By Feb it went back up and then some. With the shortage of rats and good sales and the weather in China I would be surprised if rats don't hit all time highs by Nafa's Feb sale.

I think you are correct on the winter's not being so much more valuable. I was reviewing last years prices and it was only about 50 cents from average to good falls and not even a $1.00 extra for winters. There was about $1.00 to $1.50 on size say 2xl to xl to l to medium.

Bryce When you look at these winter rats I catch now compared to ealy Nov rats it's hard not to think they should be worth at least a couple bucks more. There like a whole different animal. Those winter rats are pretty. But the Chinese don't think that way I guess.

Bryce I dont think many realize that my rats aren't as good as a WI type or a southern MN marsh type.
Most of what I catch right now will still grade fall at NAFA.
I seen more than a couple good size collections of rats sell at the MTA winter meeting this weekend for over 12 bucks and they were open water rats.

Hammer, you are probably spot on about February prices.
Dont think I'll sell another rat until after the February sale.
I dont know why the heck they even have a January sale. They being nafa and fha.

Never cared for January sales. I wish NAFA would be the first wild fur sale. Watching both auctions last year it seemed that NAFA sale was stronger and I know they have more buyers.
