This may have already been discussed and might not be new to anyone but I have a number of older #1 longsprings that have a ton of slop to them and I finally had enough so I decided I was going to fix them or at the very least improve them. I went to the hardware and bought a bunch of nylon washers of various sizes and thickness and clipped the washer so I could slide it onto the piece of flat stock where the pans hook too. Cheap to do and took about 10 seconds. I did have to try a few sizes because each trap was a little different as far as how much slop it had and I just added thicker or thinner washers as needed. I got mine still loose enough that the pan will fall under its own weight but it did cure 80% of the pan slop so that made me a happy camper.
