Funny coincidence. In a post just a couple days ago in response to musher catching a mouse, I mentioned catching a weasel in a 220 and figured it had been swinging on the trigger wires. Yesterday, a different story. This weasel was caught in a 220 but I figure he hit the wire with the mouse he'd caught and was carrying down the trail.

I have caught three weasels in 220s over the years and everyone was carrying a mouse.

Cool catch. I'm guessing that your weasels do not change colour?

According to "Mammels of Indiana" written my one of my college profs, only about 5% of our weasels turn into ermines. Perhaps that's more in the Lake Michigan lake-snow belt. This is the only the second one I've caught and perhaps the 3rd or 4th wild specimen I've seen. The other I caught was much smaller so I'm assuming they have gender-size differences as do mink.

Have caught grey fox and bobcats that were carrying rabbits when they hit the snare. Caught 1 grey that was toting a rabbit hindquarter and the bottom off the loop ran must have ran up the hindquarter because he was caught in the mouth and behind the ears. Also had a coyote tote a dried up deer hide into a snare. Caught the hide but he was able to wiggle his head out and escape because the hide was too big. Quite a sight...

Our weasels run from much smaller than a red squirrel to the size of a female mink. I picked up three today and two of them were female mink board size. No photos.

Have caught weasels in everything from a 110 to 330 excluding 280's because I don't use them

That's very neat! I have never caught a weasel. Ours don't turn here either, may be similar to your 5% that change into ermine. But all the ones that I have seen in the wild have been the same color as yours! I've never had a predator and prey...but I did have a beaver with a chew stick! Haha Definitely not as cool as your catch! Nom nom nom

I once caught a raccoon carrying an ear of corn. Another time I caught a coyote and there was a dead rabbit laying nearby. I deduced the greedy 'yote dropped the rabbit to see what was in my dirt hole.

Weasels with flying squirrels. Not a rare thing around here. Sometimes it's because the squirrel was in the box and the weasel showed up. Other times it's because a squirrel was caught and was thrown in the box as bait.
