Yers I can Beav as I mix dukes with the Daggers side by side and can see what catches me the most coon. Stands to reason your getting the coon on the down stroke reaching for that sticky- edible bait versus having to have them grab the bar and pull up. If the dukes work for you great! I know what performs better for me straight out of the box! Give me the circle trigger which a coon can't get around and get the bait. He has to push down or pull up to move the trigger out of the way. Compair the kill area of a Dagger trigger to that of a duke much larger, just the facts. I posted this before but I like this trigger alot better than a solid thin bar and couple this design with a push/pull and a good bait and bingo very high catch % of coon.

agree with yote39 on the Daggers.... i changed all my dukes to push pull and have ordered MORE daggers... out in ND the Daggers outperformed dukes 5 to one and i can truthfully say no Daggers had bait stolen... proof in the results.... i didnt think it would be that one sided but the full Daggers vs lot of empty Dukes made a believer out of me.... all the Dukes i had were with regular triggers.

I dont believe for a second that coons are cleaning the bait out of your dukes and not getting caught.

A better question would be how many dps are you running and how many coon have you caught in dps this season?

nick, what are the benefits of pull only for YOU? The most important for me is the type of bait I use, and how I bait the trap. Allows for speed with the methods I was taught.

I dont believe for a second that coons are cleaning the bait out of your dukes and not getting caught. I dont doubt some coon are cleaning them out from time to time, but 5 to 1? Another good question, is what type of bait are you using?

Given the number of pussy cats I catch in my dirt sets around here, I'd hate to think of the number I'd catch with push pull triggers. Even just the pull types certainly aren't cat proof.

Do what you wish guys, but Coons do clean out MY Dukes far easier than the Daggers. Sorry the majority aren't mice CW. Use what you wish, I know my choice are the daggers. For obvious reasons mentioned.
Have fun this is what it is all about FUN!

I was using a small size cheap cat food about the size of peas.....with sheep wool on bottom of DPs and bait on top. Granted mice took some bait but Daggers had the most coon in vs single pull Dukes... Usually i catch some mice in Daggers and even Dukes but didnt catch one while in ND but did ahem catch feral kitties...lol. NOT the spotted kind either...

I'm doing a pretty good job of that with Dukes or Grizzes for that matter.

No it isn't about fun its about catching more than the competition and making money that in turn equals fun. If you want to have fun thats great but you are the one posting about daggers being superior to dukes or grizzes and seems like the guys catching REAL coon numbers dissagree.

First off each to their own on what is fun. Right now it is about me and my kids and still catching decent numbers, not by the 100's but enough to know what is what with these traps. Secondly check your ego at the door CW. Compition for coons are you serious? LOL. I can trap coons all over the place and have plenty of areas and ditches to trap. There is no compition for coon trapping where I'm at good grief.
Making money on fur can be fun, it also can be a let down at times as well. I trapped for profit, for control and for fun and right now I'm in the fun mode. 3 of my 4 kids will be off to college in the next 4 years time for fun! When they are in college I can go back to some more serious mumbo jumbo. I will trap what offers the biggest return on investment at that time.
Next there are plenty of guys catching alot of coons with daggers. Catching piles of coons requires alot of coons, popping coons off a corn pile isn't rocket science nor is it when I have taken 17 so far from a roll away dumpster located 70 yrds from a feeder creek. Those all in daggers. Plenty of coons to be had for all at least in this location.
Use what you wish but unless you have used the daggers then hard to comment on their effectivness I would say? I have used both in question as have others and many prefer the daggers over the Dukes. Again what do YOU think the differeance is in catch efficantcy between a pull only and a push/pull trigger? Next a thin bar trigger versus one in a circle that covers more sq " of the tube? Simple logic and math will go along ways.
The dagger trigger larger more paw contact, the dagger trigger weight down or up releases the dog. The duke a thinner trigger that covers the middle of the tube and nothing more and they NEED to hook and pull up.
Go nail them with the Dukes could careless really, I offered my suggestions based on what I have found in the field, nothing more or less sir.
Now back to fun LOL. My kids are having a blast setting and checking those daggers and SUCCESS!!!!! Keeps them in the game longer and with more interest.
The dagger pre set on a pogo is a super fast and efficant system.
Take your Dukes and keep on hammering them!!!!! The quail people sure do like me and my kids out there cleaning up their coons.

Yeh RDFX I stay away from the creeks and stay upland no sense in catching the yellows and browns when upland I can get a big majority of these nice colored bigger coons. Besides the quail guys keep me and the kids plenty busy. I put in an add in a local paper and have plenty of coon catching permission. It also turns out to be decent coyote and cat trapping as well.
I have heard the Iowa guys have alot of distemper in many areas and catches are down, not down this way yet! I have been "daggering" all age classes of coons.
