What do you mean about the daggers out producing the dukes? are you having dukes set off with no catch? or bait gone in the duke with no catch? Im only at 85 coon for the season but most are from duke dp's trying to figure out what the issue is?

Yep bait stolden out of them, I'm going to switch them to a 2 way trigger, the daggers over all I find to be a far better DP than the dukes. Not just the trigger but holding ability of the sw versus round traps.
The slim trigger versus the rounded on the dagger just harder for them to steal period over the Dukes.

a3/8 piece of 1/4 inch fuel line on the duke or griz trigger fixes that....

I did that tubing thing on the triggers, half are gone now, yes I think it helps. I shared my observations on the DP that preformed best for me, these guys told me I was wrong lol, say it aint so. Though I do see more nontargs with 2way, if that's a concern.
The coyote picture. Is it a dirt hole in woods or edge or?? You guys impress me with your location pictures.
If you trapped for a living, but now do not and can smell the roses so to say, and take the kids, yes most enjoyable I bet, no pressure.

I have no problem with bait stealing with the Grizz or Duke and I have caught in the thousands of coon in dps. The two way trigger is a waste of time.. Have a buddy who uses the Z trap his catch percentages are no better than mine. Numbers don't lie.

Each to their own Black hammer, but give me the two way trigger every time over the single pull up type. Not just 2 way but also the design of the trigger itself as well. I will pat the extra per doz for the daggers as I found it to be a superior trap for ME and coon, any coon, any size with a higher catch rate. I use one bait- Black Label coon bait, excellent stuff for sure. I know why the Duke has some issues and I know it is mostly smaller coon doing it, but the Daggers Little worries and have went away from pellet baits all together, except for chum outside the trap. Again use what YOU feel best, I'm stickin with the daggers. I have caught enough with them to see their benefits. The coyote set is in timber along a drainage and a rock crossing the drainage runs in a horseshoe shape I'm setting on the U bend of the drainage. MIght have had a double but a cow set off the other trap at this location. I'm sure by adding a "better" trigger the dukes would do me better, but by doing so cost wise I'm there within a few bucks of the daggers and also circle tubes versus sq. The daggers come ready to roll with no mods needed. The down fall is the daggers do a great job on skunks as well

What made you get away from the pellet bait? I think a guy needs two different kinds of bait to run in the dp's. Ive caught way too many skunks in the dukes this year. If i would have had daggers maybe i would have had 6 here? You can see the one empty duke in the pic. pellet bait was still in there but the marshmellow i plug in the top to keep out mice was gone. Im wanting to get this dp thing down to a science.

My take on pellet baits has been they just pull them up and tip them out at times, I have found polyfill and black label to work excellent with the dagger. I have some fish oil mixes to use for milling effect and trailing and use fish food pellets for chum but not in the tubes anymore.
The black label is hard for them to remove and couple that with the 2 way circle trigger and I find it to be a good advantage.
Grain fed coons nice!

yes its a 24 hour check its KS. Ive caught more than that together. I dont see the point in setting 2 or 3 traps and making 7 checks at a location when i can set heavy and be done in 2 checks.
Sign dictates amount of traps. sometimes i overestimate or underestimate. What you dont see in that picture is a distillers grain pile about 20 yards away. I set a new feedlot today with 12 dps right in the trail to the distiller's pile. I fully expect to have 8 to a dozen coons there tommorow. Im just a internet trapper. season has been in two weeks tomorrow and im only at a 102 coons.

If a location is good enough to set dps for coon the minimum amount of sets is 4.

My partner and I caught 200+ coon in Duke DPs the first 6 days of season this year, and I for sure want a Pull only trigger.
There was very little evidence that we missed coon because of the pull only trigger too. I'm sure we missed a few, but not enough to sacrifice the benefits of the pull only.

There Isn't one guy on this forum who can honestly say that a coon was caught when pushing down on the trigger. The only fair test would be to have traps with push only triggers. Then we could debate the pros and cons. You need a bait that Is very sticky and won't freeze and It has to taste good.
I'm sticking with the pull only type trigger.
