Pressure wash your traps hang to dry and then wax.Forget about the dye . I feel that dye just adds another smell to your traps and after a few dipping In the wax pot all your wax starts to smell like log wood dye and I don't think that's a good thing.

I don't think they need to be dyed either. There have been millions of canines taken with logwood dyed traps. So it sure does no harm what so ever.

over the past 44 years i have tryed every way you can think of, and even thing that i will not talk about, but it is to my findings that logwood (CRYSTALS) is the most efect of way to go as it is a fact that logwood CRYSTALS does neutralize odor, and you are right Beav, about the smell, and the more times you use it the more it smells, BUT that smell is the smell of your steel, and thats why it gets stronger the more it is used, and after you dye your Traps hang them and let them cool, then rinse them off good with fresh water before you put them in your wax OR you will contamenate your wax, now that will be the diffrents between catching a few fox or coyotes verses catching most all the fox that approach your sets. of course if you are doing every thing else right. I all so learned long ago that rusting your Traps before dyeing and waxing is a NO NO, the rust will continue to grow under the dye/wax. now I'm NOT looking for a fight here with anyone, just wanted to tell what improved my catch ratio by 99.9 percent. that all.

Powder coat your traps and that will solve 98% of all your trap prep problems.

Wasn't it BW that commented here once that if folks are having canines focus on the buried trap instead of the powerful smells emanating just inches away from it,, they're not using the right smells!! Or something to that fact!

well I can agree with you both on that, and I have never tryed powder coating Traps, but your right Beav, that just may be the way to go. have you try it? if so PLEASE tell us more Beave PLEASE, but as for the right smells, we are just overrun with possems here in south cen PA. and it usely very late in the sesson untli its cooled enough to pull them to bed for thr winter, as I have said before, thats just one of the ressons I like my pit-pans so well, but it still seem to cause some trouble with a set for fox anyway, that a stinking old possem has spent some time at. but anyway I realy like the sound of powder coat. tell us more Beav, or we will remove your caster & oil sack.

Is powder coating practical money wise?

powder coating not practical for alot of traps unless someone has a great deal to get them powder coated?
Dye, walnut hulls etc and wax best thing going has been for many, many years.
Keep things clean when using wax and things will go along smoothly.

yes your right trappencoyote39, if it ant brock don't fix it, but it was a nice tought for a little wile anyway. I think you can get a powder coat gun and hole kit from harberfright for under $100 don't know how good it would be, but I buy from them on something and you can get your moneys worth out of SOME of there things, but some of it is pure junk to, so who know. but it still might get the best of me to give it a try. exspecly on my water traps. and maybe a couple k-9 trap just so I will be able to sleep at night.

maybe I'll just wait to see what the Beav has to say about it. Always a good reason! . Experience talks and b~ll chit squawks!

You think I'm squawking Seldom ? LOL Nope, I sure don't. Both you and Beav have plenty of experience and a difference of opinion or a deviation doesn't mean either are wrong, or am I, just different!! It's up to the person asking to decide which experience/opinion weighs more to him! I'm not on the night train to jump onto the powder coating bandwagon for sure because I didn't just fall off the turnip truck but I firmly believe that the promotion of FMJ is squawking! When things are touted to be almost too good to be true or the best thing since sliced bread, I get real narrow-eyed. If you're going to sing it, ya better be able to bring it!! When ya bring it, ya better bring the full bucket and I don't see that in most coating-type "inventions".
