Who on here has taken Ogormans instructions? Was it worth it? Not the price, but the expectations you had compared to the results you got from the experience? He offers refreshers. Have any of you that have taken instructions from him been back?
I have read Hoofbeats and I am impressed, both with his knowledge and his persistence of giving credit to those that he has learned from.

Probably the best money I have spent when it comes to money invested in trapping.
It sure does change the way a person thinks.

$1095 dollars is the cost this year. That is alot of money. I think that it will pay for itself the first year. I have friends who have blown that much at the casino in one night!

Absolutely worth it and would do it over again. Took mine way back in 1976 and have never regretted it nor the money it cost. I owe everything of the trapper I am today to Craigs instructions and the foundation it provided me.
Have a friend whom I sent to Craig for instructions. He just was there a week or so ago and called me right after finishing. He could not say enough how much he learned and how happy he was that I pushed him into going.

Has O'Gorman ever had a student win the Coyote Trapping contest? How about even place in the top three? Who were they and what years?

Ok I will bite Robert, what the heck does an obscure coyote trapping contest have to do with any of this?
Are you keeping tabs on who wins and who they received instructions from?
There are plenty of others who could win this contest they CHOOSE not to participate.
As far as the rest? Leaving it lay.

Ya Ya I took lessons from Bob Wendt so there. Obscure contest? If you enter and win a contest then you must have been the best In that contest,. If one thinks he's as good or better then he or she should step up to the plate and prove It. But most sit on the side lines and make excuses. Credit where credit Is due.

I think the absense of those that participate, says it all about the importance of the contest to guys like o'g, etc. It means nothing to them, and as such, have no desire or interest in entering it.
If you enter and win a contest then you must have been the best In that contest
thats very true, and credit indeed to those that do go there with the intent to win. those that win, win because they outwork the others that were there.
but it cannot be exploiated to mean the best anywhere.

B eav this coyote trapping contest is mainly ego driven, it doesn't pan out to be a money maker at all. Plenty can do far,far better winning some of the larger calling contest, heck even middle of the road calling contest for that matter, you get some ego, some desire to compete and place in the top 3 and a good return on your investment.
The trappng contest by the time you pay gas, lodging, time spent and all the rest No way anyone walks away with enough to cover exspenses. Make it 7,500 or 10,000 grand and see if you don't have more participants and also new winners I bet you 50.00 you would.
Sure anyone who wins deserves it No doubt about that, but still is an obscure contest for the reasons mentioned, also the cloak and dagger lid they put on the thing still don't get it? Why not make public the numbers? All your calling contest do name and number taken.

TC39, I seriously doubt you could place in the top 75% of the finishers of this contest (my opinion, serious).
Some of the best coyote trappers in this nation have competed in that contest and in the trapping fraternity it is the equivalent of the Olympics. Bill Applegate is one (probably caught more mountain lions than any other man in the United States, over 500 now I believe).
As for being "obscure", there are articles and pictures every year in trapping magazines about it and information on the trapping forums. What more do you want?
TC39;"by the time you pay gas, lodging," Obviously you haven't even looked into it or know what you are talking about (again) as their is no "lodging".
There have been several of O'Gormans students compete in this contest the years that I competed. Some of them let everyone in camp know they were O'Gorman students before the contest started. They were alot more quiet by the third & fourth check days.

I won a spelling bee in the 6th grade, and once even won a hot dog eating contest!
Being an OG student doesnt make you a coyote trapper.
The fact that no OG student has won it says nothing about Craigs knowledge or the value of his instructions. Nor does winning it make you some sort of coyote expert.
kskoons... if you want to go and can afford it , go for it. No question Craig is one of the most knowledgeable trappers anywhere. I know a lot of very good coyote men, many of them are OG students. I've never heard any of them say they regret going.

I posed a serious question. Wouldn't surprise me if an OG student had won the contest or placed in the top three during the twenty 24 years of the contest, just want to know they are?
