Guy Groenwald told me they have 300K coons on hand right now. I saw a lot of coons going back to the trappers last Saturday at their stop near me. I didn't ask why, but no more greens makes sense since they couldn't have all been that bad. Good thing for me the marketing is just more of the entertainment, not house payments. He was paying $12 tops on put up rats. Hard grade on coyotes and $2.50 per head on possums, (dried).

That makes sense they typically have done about 20--250K depending on harvest and how aggressive they are in the market so being up 30-50% sounds about right. With a late season that means a lot of good coons to pick from and those early coons really look poor now as do many of the later rubbed and urine stained ones. One reason I am glad I ship is now I can see every grade, size and color coon I have and what they will sell for. I can see every price break. That will give me insight as to what to anticipate for next fall on what run of the mill Eastern WI coons are worth. May will help define those prices even more if we get a bunch of buy backs this round. It won't be good if the Groenewalds, Wiebke's and Petska's are holding a couple hundred K of coons they are going to make minimal return on if any return. Of course that is the best way to limit a harvest. If early in the grease coons brought to the trucks the first week of November are say $5.00 a lot of steel will get pulled and a lot of hounds will get more rest.
