I own 4 dozen 550"s great trap.I put my hands on the 450 and they are a stout trap but with a 41/2 inch jaw spread I would think you would have quite a few flipped traps. Now if you have many grey fox thats another story most greys I catch in 550's have minimal foot damage but the heavy trap dislocates the shoulder alot.As far as flipping and rolling the grey fox fights a trap mighty hard.Good luck on the 450's considered some myself but they seem to small to me

from what i read the 550 is 4 3/4 and the 450 is 4 3/8 .. thats inside the jaws. thats what sold me on them, i didnt figure that much would matter.. i target coyotes and cats. we cant even trap foxes here thats why we got as many reds and greys as coyotes.

Ihave not tried those 450s yet, mainly using 550.I like that trap but just a tad heavy for greys to me.Let us know how you think they do with greys and if you snag a coyote.Grey fox are plentiful here but now I have to release as fox went out jan.31.I would hope that law gets changed someday.Good luck with those 450s,MB makes pretty good stuff.

a 4 3/8 spread trap is not what I would use for mainly coyote work unless mandated by law to do so.

I've got 100 of the standard 450 with the coyote springs in them. They hold what steps in them with no problems, and are very animal friendly, wild or domestic. That's the reason I bought them, while working Delta contracts in and around farms. I wouldn't be afraid to recomend to a live market trapper, infact I have. They are making a fox model now with lighter springs, I undestand they were requested by southern Grey fox trappers. I'm not a off set guy, so can't comment on the offset model.

I must admit ya'll are starting to get my interest up.I have a good number of grey fox on my line as well as coyotes cats and reds and so far the 550 has done good except for dislocating the shoulders on the little greys.I need to put my hands on some as I am a live market trapper myself.Right now the 11/2 victor soft catch is my bread and butter and I have held a good amount of coyotes in them but I am willing to try the fox version of the 450 and check the results on the grey fox.If they work good I will switch to them there is nothing I hate more than replacing rubber pads on those little traps. It will be september before I can check them but I am going to try a dozen

Try the #1.75 SC... A lot better trap in my opinion than the #1½ SC.

Those sc traps are good for a time ,but the450s really hold up well to the abuse.lay flat every time which is important to me a slight bent dog was the only trouble, nothing pliers couldn't fix.for a out of the box trap they are right up there with sterling and jakes.well real close anyhow.I say that cause thats all I use.

I have no doubt jax the the MB traps are better builded traps. I was just saying to Coldsteel that the #1.75 soft catch is just a better trap than the soft catch #1½.
Coldsteel... I like OS traps and don't do any live market so....
Back to the 450 thread...LoL

Yes I got the os heavy model, haven't caught any greys but from the feet on the coyotes after a week in the pen,100 percent on the feet.the lighter model with offset for the foxes would do very well IMO.the450os is a bit heavy.the f model is lighter built so they should be top notch for Grey's.I cant find neone in the state who wants greys they all seem to want reds and coyotes

I just checked minn trap products and the fox version they say is lighter but it wasen't offered in a offset.I must admit I have never put my hands on a 450 but man with the photo those pans look huge in the trap opening. Are you having any trouble with sprung traps the coyote paw is mighty big and it just looks so much smaller than my 550's

The550is43/4the450is43/8thats inside spread I didn't have any misses i pull alot of coyotes for the market.next year gonna go for broke with the450s.easiest on the feet ive used.which is what the pens only concern is.so this trap and quick checks should prove good for me.I like the round jaws on these compared to the550s I use some550s but the foot damage is more than with the450s.oh ya and always some blue lotion.your from nc my friend.I'm giving out my new found secret.lol.lol you want go wrong gettin a dozen and trying them

Right now its a guessing game on my line as to what trap to set and I have always told myself there isn't a trap out there that is user friendly on a gray fox and tough enough for a coyote.I have a good live market for my little grays and feet are very important I can't believe I can't get any feedback on this trap on gray fox .I am planning on getting the lighter version of the 450 those little grays flip and fight a trap awful hard and I don't want the extra weight of the trap to cause dislocated shoulders. Maybe Buzz has tried these I will have to PM him

Coldsteel you hit it,I just have not found a trap that works for yotes and grey fox.My 1 1/2 softcatch sit idle now after many years of good work for fox. With all the coyotes around,I have just quit sellin the greys even though there are guys that want them, just concentrate on reds and yotes.Amazing how times have changed aint it.Good luck with those 450s.
