What is the jaw spread on these and how are they for beaver. Found some for sale for $264 for 2 dozen. Was also wondering how are they for coyotes thinking about getting them and selling my #2 bridger. Wanting so input from some who has used both. What would be better for coyotes #4 or #3 Montgomery dogless. They are low levers.

The old Montgomery's #4 were 6 1/2" jaw spreads. Low levers you may NOT LIKE EITHER

What is the disadvantage of the low levers?

they do not excert as much hold as the mechanical advantage not as good. i.e.- they dont come up as high and pullouts may be experenced . you can see what I am talking about by pulling open a fired trap with a stick in jaws and the open jaws with hands pulling jaws open vs. one with a 2 x4 in for a starting point. The jaws more open and the levers set lower and it will take less effort to pull jaws apart with as wider start point..I hope you understand what I am TRYING to say.

Stick bow hit it right on , they do not hold as good as the high lever IMO but if using them for beaver I bet they would work good , but you can buy duke #4 for alot less money and use them for front foot catches on beaver , I know alot of guys that do use them and they are high levered ,,,,,,, Fluff

Thanks for the input will stick with the bridgerYou could sell those #2 bridgers and step up to a #3 bridger fully tricked out and have a darn good coyote trap What is great for beaver and great for coyotes IMO are 2 totally different traps.

Put some #3 Bridger levers on them and then you would have a damn good trap.

If you need to add high levers I'll just buy the tricked out bridger.

Bridgers are OK, I prefer the dogless Monty's, but have caught a hell of a lot of animals on dogged traps so it probably doesn't matter except once in a blue moon.

the good thing on Jasons springs is you can just cut off the old levers and put his on with out messing with the frames or jaws and with monties you never want to bend the jaw tips if you dont need to.

Yes, Jason's springs and Jason's work. I can't take credit for them, but will be just as happy using them.

Jason Dufresne- lives in central Mn, is an absolute wizard with a welder and trap mods ideas.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow, of a victor #1.5- 4 coiled, laminated, beefed up, wire levers- its a work of art
