Got 4 ounces of platte river flattail from carlis. reset a colony that has been trapped and shot at by someone else. these beaver are as spooky as they get.
I had set it up couple weeks ago with no takers no good place for a blind set.
put in some sets with platte river yesterday and had two beaver and a muskrat today.........im a believer.

I make my own beaver lure and It works great. Robert Waddell makes and sells a GREEN beaver lure that's just about as good as mine LOL

since we are all bragging, I tested XXXL against most of the popular beaver lures, in side by side tests.
XXXL won hands down-
one test was 6 castor mounds in a row- every other one XXXL, every other one other WELL KNOWN brands.
next day- 3 with XXXL had beaver, the other 3 did not. Verified by Lori, who did all the luring on the tests.
similar results were the norm as far as given the option, and which set hit.

The way my butt is dragging from checking traps in the mud and walking.I look pretty clean.I think I am getting to old for this trapping after work till 2 am in the morning.But like a dummy I will do it again.

braveheart, reminds me of taking Jess along when she was 7 or so- trapping a creek where we had taken the beaver, and the dam had bene pulled by farmer- so there was mud for 20-30 before the water.
and that mud wsa slick- we both went down a few times.
We gort home- Mom said Jess- look at how muddy you are!
Jess replied "but you should have seme how muddy I could have been!"
btw- for a true mud experience=- trap gophers in the rain

I was happy to just get up our deep ditches.It is frozen about 2 in. down and snotty mud on top.I just put the head down and plow.And better make sure the direction you want to go down because you may not stop till the bottom.Ready to hit it again for the last 10 days.
