Been reading here and there how the muskrat market is flooded (450,000 rats and its flooded? Give me a break).
The reason the rat market and other markets are down, if thats the case- is because, as my buyer has said all season- there just isn't any real money out there. Everyone is nervous.
He was telling me, that $8.50 is the break even point for him on rats (what he needs to sell them for), and that with the players involved and with the scarcity of buyers and money- it was hard to push prices much.

steven- I wonder if this expansion will make it down here. I'm hoping the southern expansion and the northern expansion meet right here.
Man- we should have cats all over down here- purrrrfect country for them. John Erb stopped by a while back and we got to talking and he expressed a desire to someday get a restocking program going here.
Are you seeing much expansion in their range yet?

I see you meant specifically- but it makes me wonder why no greys here anymore.
Used to catch a few every year- not many, but 3-4.
Caught none last 3 years, 1 year before that.
Don't see any real reason for it- habitat seems about the same, and I'm trapping same areas.

i don't think trappers would want ot pay for young male urine, etc, etc- because they would be paying extra for nothing.
Urine is urine after a short period of time.
Like doe in heat urine- biggest rip out there-
any esterus hormones long disipate- leaving the basic chemical makeup of urine-
which is why any urine works for canines.
Markers are markers only when constantly renewed.

I don't collect urine- but there is no reason to separate them- any female hormones, etc will be out of that urine long before its used.

Wash the big stuff off them,
soak em' in bleach, dish soap, a little peroxide overnight-
then rinse, let dry, pack away until time to boil and wax next year.

bryce- I find your statement odd. You've never had a coon under ice on a slide wire- but you have had multiple possums and skunks?
Wonder why?
I've never caught a skunk in a pocket set, and caught MAYBE 4-5 possums over the years- and none of those laste season

So you are saying that you never went with someone regular on their traplines before?
I ask this not to insult you- but if you have had zero trapping exposure- a phenomenol firat season
