ghost cat  This sucker took a 30 pound drag rock down the hill for a tumble  On another thread guys were asking about sleepy creeks this is 1 3/4  Season is over today, took some nostalgic pics of the country I love wandering around in. God's been good to me.    |

great scenery shots joel, and SUN! something the east doesn`t get. my cats desperatly need some drying. been heat and fans on them the whole time and at 90-100% humidity look like put on just yesterday. I`ve been home 3 weeks and yesterday was the first sunny day in 3 weeks I could hang them out.

So many take such scenery for granted because you see it every day. I have learned more then ever to step back and appreciate my time in the field now adays. Nice cats and breathe taking photos.

 Great pic's. But why do you call it a ghost cat? The body of water in the back ground. Is it shallow,do people fish there? Is there anything, like mule deer or antelope running around? I'm taking that the in the pic's , that's sage brush. The slate/shale has to be cautious to walk on at times. Great views, and I like the pic's. But I have never been to this part of the country before,"Nevada". When I was 10 years old,My father,sister and myself. flew to NM. To see my dads brother and our 1st cousins. They live in Albuqurque. I remember desert on one side of the mountain. and the other was a lush green and forest.

Area around Sedona Az.....and a couple called greys  More Northern Az.  What the 7000 foot elevation looks like.  That second pic is just a couple miles from where I live......Yeh, I know, I have to look at that stuff every day. I guess somebodys got to do it.! In the background, you will see a tiny portion of what the Mogillon Rim looks like. Cat Factories is what Mell Hershberger called them. He was right....both bobcats and lions. |

Stanley he was just pale. The water is just runoff that has collected on the valley floor. The "Great Basin" is called that because no water drains to the sea, it just flows onto the valley floor and evaporates and leaves what is called a playa. Another word for alkaline flat.
You are right the most dangerous thing in this part of the world is rockslides, I have two different friends that have slipped and knocked themselves unconcious, one broke his leg and had to hop to the ATV.
Lot's of antelope here an some deer, would be more except for lions.

When Bob and i trapped them, he called the chafawn foxes, because they were almost a pale yellow with a little red in them.
Look at those tails though. 9 inch diameter tails with 6 inches of white on them!
The belly fur on them is longer than the backs of prime Indiana reds!
They just dont have the color though.

Thats funny. Chafaun foxes. he he. It don't take much to make a better fox then Indiana foxes though.

Mel was a great trapper and teacher. He was from the Phoenix area. Trapped all over.
He wrote a very good bobcat trapping book too!
