Ever had beaver meat made into summer sausage-mmm, mmm, good!!! anyway I have seen some pretty faster beaver skinners and fleshers, I will say this to each is own, it would interesting to see these guys side by side. Lord knows I have very little experience in regards to beaver skinning.

I intend to trap some his winter just to get the meat. I trapped some in ks and felt bad I wasn`t set up to save the meat in quantity out there. I`ll market the hides as a by product of the meat.

Talking about meat that is one of the worst chores I hate doing is hauling off carcasses.Nothing like having to dispose of 15 to 20 bloody carcasses in the bed of a pickup truck with nowhere good to dispose of them

ditto on the carcasses. I have a couple of dumps on my line where the farmer still dumps cows, and with their permissions, I add to them. Without them, it would really be a pain.

i dread carcass duty too, used to sneak into furbuyers barrels at night when he aint around, now he put up a huge fence around the joint, I'll have to start heaving them over fence I suppose, and force a key out of him. Its a tall fence, gonna need a ladder for beaver carcasses, dont eat them as the steel belts stick in my teeth.

I don't get many beaver, but most of mine go to snare spots for coyote/cat.
Otherwise, we have to pay $20 about once a week to dump carcasses. Supposed to be $30 per stop and an extra $5 per barrel for more than three barrels, but dad sweet talked the driver. The driver pockets the twenty......... and as far as anybody knows, he doesn't stop at our place.
I remember when they payed for picking up carcasses and gave a premium for fat if you kept it separate.
In regards to original question, my experience suggests that if you "pull" a beaver skin, the gristle/red meat goes with the hide.

If i sell beaver in the round I'm going to lose ten bucks minnimum most years unless I would get lucky and beat a falling market.
Castors are worth 2 bucks a beaver except the dinks and I have a meat market which usually will get me another 1.50 plus the difference between round and finished its close to ten.
Steve you 28 dollar average isnt even a fair anology to most averages. You are trapping primarily pairs and they arent 2 years old they are three. Most 2 year olds will stretch out at 55 inches or less.
Yeah you did good by selling to the local this year. But last year I made way more money shipping than I lost this year shipping, so its six of one half dozen of the other.
Bob I've fleshed 40-50 beaver a day more than I care to remember. You have to do something when its 25-30 below out.
Good knife and a beam it isnt that hard. I can usually flesh 8 and hour on a normal run. I am slowing down some.
Like rich says there are many guys taking 20-30 a day in areas. You almost have to rough them out if you want to keep up.
Oh doc its a 52 coat and a 7 1/2 hat.

I have done 15-20 a night average several times, and in my prime did 400 a season, and because of space concerns, had to put up everything daily, and once the hoops and boards were full, had to get them fleshed and frozen, I can tell you, that about killed me, it isn't easy work

Beaver as people food is o.k. but it can be oily. and there's only so much of it you're going to eat.
I read that in Alaska, way back when, that sledders were giving up to 25 bucks for a large beaver to use as dog meat.

rk660, contact Hornhunter, he has the recipe down to a science, even had 12 college co-eds eating right out of his hand at the winter Rendezvous up to Freedom NH. They loved his stew so much, that they have been taking beaver carcasses back to campus to cook up for their friends, the guy knows his beaver, both 4 legged and 2 legged...

I only wear my ballcap over my sweatshirt hood when I go downtown. if I`m really putting on the ritz I `ll wear white sweat socks and sandals too, you know, to round out my unique personality and lady slaying looks. even that liberal pam says I have paul newman blue eyes, lol. that one really cracked me up. first time I ever had a woman look at my eyes. I must be losing it.
