There's a small door at the bottom. It was a mistake - it won't seal up enough to burn all night without a spring on it. Most of these have a 2" or so hole at the bottom with a swing-cover (hinged with a self-tapping screw, of course) to get it going.
The general idea for this stove came from the "Alaska How-To manual" which gives plans for a short barrel stove. I've built a couple of those, but wanted to have a bigger one for camp. I'm still learning!
Dave - I'd whine if I had to trap in the rain too! I usually check each trap once a week, and it often takes me a few days to skin a daily catch. Frozen critters are a blessing.

Heck, anyone can live where I live - if you can speak French! The cold isn't a real problem. The bugs can be a pain. Everything thaws if you leave it in the bathtub long enough but teenage daughters tend to get a little lippy if you use their tub... Thanks, Dusty. The next time I see a small barrel lying around (25-35 gallons) I'm going to build one.
