It is hard for me to find a lure or bait that is as good as a piece of beaver meat in the hole. It would be great to find a lure that I could just squirt in the hole quickly and be done but I haven't found such a lure. Do you think the coyote smells all the different smells or one smell from them all mixed together? I got some of Steffs lures from you but the beaver was a better attractor for the coyotes. I think your gophers would be similar. I think both of us know how to catch the critters, I just need to have better numbers. NAFA pickup this Saturday.

A piece of beaver meat here has no effect on coyotes . I have a friend that put out pile of beaver in CRP ground they were kind of rank when thrown out . He set snares in and as of yet no hits on it. The deer rib cages yes but the beaver except hawk and crows nothing.

Had same reaction in places on bvr carcasses in thick brush no takers, stayed till spring and rotted. In nearby areas with open fields, carcasses were eaten by yotes and fox, fishers during cold weather... go figure on the heavy brush carcasses.

I never saw much action with beaver on my piles during winter either. In fact, 2 years ago, coyotes were eating the coon, but not the beaver. but never tried a piece of beaver.

I'm not saying they won't eat beaver, just saying they don't hit it as hard as I would think they would.

I have three moose, two deer, variety of lynx carcasses and the number one draw for every meat eater...BEAVER.
After watching the trail cams I can tell beaver is by far the most desirable bait.

all I can say Jim- is for whatever reason, that changes at certain times of the year. I was frankly shocked, when a couple of years ago my rats laid there and shriveled up, and coon were the most heavily fed on. Even beaver sat- although the chickadees and woodpeckers seemed to be nibbling on it from the sign.
And look at deer- sometimes of year they are gone overnight- but multiple times I find a dead deer in winter from gun season, and often even though coyote tracks close by- it remains untouched for weeks of observation- then all at once- its like only meal in woods, and perhaps thats the answer
and dead calves- some are demolished, some aren't touched- and from same farms, so medication, etc should be same
its a puzzler for sure

Steve ive had same observations as you on the carcasses laying around like no one is interested and then boom being visited. During deer season a deer gut pile EVEN with cig butts on or near are gobbled up over nite...you dont see gut piles after deer season. Go figure , another thing to wonder on yotes.... oh well, thats what keeps things interesting

They may not be eating them, but it seems like they check them a lot. Like driving by to make sure the grocery store is still where it used to be, just in case you need it. At least in my mind that's why they do it. They get close, until they decide to eat. I see it on my dead pile out back.

This was a copy and post from the wilderness trapping forum. I spent a lot of time on there yesterday, it is on the first page and is called Mountain Journal. Guy goes by bushman, very interesting if anyone has the time to spend on it. That was a quote from him in it I just had to put in on here. Jim
