If our current trend continues the local, state and federal government will be roughly 40-45% of the national GDP. It is about 25-30% now. (Historically high)
This trend up has been accomplished with GOP presidents, Dem Presidents, A GOP Congress a Dem Congress and all combinations in between. Many local units of government are non political and as our population concentrates in more metro areas we have much higher government costs in urban and suburban areas then rural areas and they are many times not political. States and feds are more political then ever. We now have a politically motivated House that wants to sue a politically based administration and have a politically appointed court make a decision one way or the other. It is sort of like a "no contest plea" our are guilty but never need to state you are guilty and thus claim no responsibility for ones actions. Years ago when Bill Bradley campaigned for president in 2000 he wrote a book that outlined his concepts on how to rein in government and provide the needed changes and fund the needed programs. When you talk about raising taxes, modifying entitlements and reducing spending to get a functional yet socially responsible government you can see why he was not popular. People just don't want to find answers to difficult issues when they have leaders on each side like a Hitler that can insight and divide people by creating informal class structures based on emotions and fear.
