Randy, what does "AR" stand for?
I agree Joel, the "need" one should have for owning an AR is the need to have the proper amount of cash in hand to purchase.

AR was the term used to describe armalite the original maker of such firearms the ar10 and ar 15 model numbers they sold the rights to colt arms.
The term assault rifle was never the designation of either AR models that was phrased by others calling them assault rifles. Nothing more than a model number from armalite.
No different than any other gun maker uses numbers or letters to model their firearms.

"AR was the term used to describe armalite the original maker ..."
I read that also, it's true. However that doesn't change the fact that the industry used the term Assault Rifle over and over for years.

Well given that the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the NRA use the term 'firearms industry' and make it all inclusive it appears to be the appropriate term. In fact NSSF describes itself as such, "NSSF is the trade association for the firearms industry[/b]. Our mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. And then of course there is American Firearms Industry MagazineWelcome to the website for American Firearms Industry Magazine, the only trade publication that covers all of the Federally Licensed Firearms Dealers (FFLs) in addition to over 800 industry related manufacturers. AFI is the official monthly publication for the Professional Gun Retailers Association (PGRA) and the National Association of Federally Licensed Firearms Dealers (NAFLFD.) The NAFLFD, originally incorporated in Illinois in 1972, is the oldest firearms dealer association in the U.S.A.

The thing is FWS they can call themselves associated but aren't the ones who would stand in on a law suit now are they LOL. A magazine writer or group has far more leeway on verbage than does the actual manufacture themselves, that is just a fact. So again I don't hear the US gun makers using terms like assault rifle or killing machine as we have discussed. The magazines can do so with far less fear of a lawsuit again a fact.
What makes an assault rifle such? please give me the definition. Thank You.
