If a man has any common sense and busts his ass the rest will fall into place.

I disagree- most people (you excluded) bust their ass for 2-3 weeks- and are familar with only that window of behavior. Thats not to say tons of fur cannot be taken this way- but I truely believe, that the limitations of a majority of the new generation, instant info via the internet, isn't even close to knowing the why, just not the how as Seldom used to say

those people that bust hump those first 2 3 weeks only will know what they need to know for those 2 3 weeks.
Why would they care what a mink or a coon will do in the following weeks.
Doesn't make them any less.
If they have any common sense they figure out the other things when the time arises that they might be out there.

if one goes looks out the window everyday at 1 oclock PM, and writes down the weather for that day year after year- he has a pretty good record of what is occurring at 1 clock
and he can guess, what is happening at 10 to 1, and 10 after 1-
but he has zero knowledge of what occurs at any other time.
so that man is an expert, at 1 oclock.
does is make him this or that? who knows or who cares- but at the same time, if that man tells me what occurs then at midnight, based on what he knows concerning 1 oclcock, I'll take it with the same grain of salt concerning common sense as I do on those that want to expoliate knowledge without data in any field
the trouble comes, as it so often does, by using a little knowledge, over a wider area.
for example- 2 plus 2 equals 4- but 7 plus 8, even though the knowledge known says its 4 (for constantly computing the same problem over and over, as if it was the ONLY problem)- and if someone says perhaps 4 isn't the answer- the response is I've added 2 numbers endlessly and the answer is still 4, so EVERY case of additon, equals 4
so when you tell me 4 is the answer, and as long as you add 2 plus 2, the answer will always be 4 well brother, kudos to you, you got that 2 + 2 down, so who cares if other variables exist?
ome can be the caretaker of 2 + 2, or one can be a mathematician.........

I would liken animal, knowledge like a puzzle if its missing some pieces it will never be complete and those missing parts can't show one the true picture of what the finished puzzle looks like and how that can be beneficial in your results.

don't ever set a trap for them blackhammer- its a disease and its one of those you either are into coyotes, or not- hard to be wish washy about them
picked up another doz of baords from Rally's dad Bill at the convention- expensive boards but the cadelac of coyote boards in my mind- basswood, well worked, xl size-
got all my coyote urine stocked- figured I'm going to need minimum 15 gals
will need to restock on a few lures and bait- but otherwise all set just remembered, need to pick up more screen
going over maps today, and tomorrow will head out to expand the line some- trying to get enough more at the edges, to eliminate my one "weak" loop
5 weeks from today will be skinning coyotes.

It's too hot to be so fired up. lol Go get em! I'm going to run a few dirtholes along my dry coon line hoping to pick up a few fox. I know maybe a dozen spots I will drive by everyday that should hold a red fox or two. Biggest concern is wasting time on nontargets.

I hope the coon situation is a little different this year than last- the coon shortage was widespread along the Mississippi valley last fall- its been 20 years and more since I took so few coon
good luck on the fox- caught a handful last fall, all singletons- had those few years 5-10 years ago where I was getting 35 or so a year- that dropped off quick

I think there is going to be a monster coon catch this year nationwide. Enough for two seasons maybe. I don't know maybe the market can absorb it. I don't think we will see a replay of the awesome Feb NAFA coon sale this season.

most likely, but how is it looking in your area? It looks ok but it's really hard to tell yet. The other thing is it's usually just before the season distemper shows up. Right now I'm seeing a few coon. Rats from looking around a little bit looks dismal sfter probably four very good years. The floods we had dowm here just hammered them.

I wouldn't worry about the coon catch.
I'm predicting 10 below by deer hunting.

I would like it to rain for the next three weeks or so and then turn dry. It's so dry right now I would bet pounding stakes would be an issue
