A farmer I know is having trouble with something attacking his turkeys. They bite/chew at the back of the neck and at the base of the neck where it meets the feathers/body. It has not killed any yet but they die a few days later I assume from shock. Any idea what animal would do this??

is he sure they aren't being attacked by another turkey?
If seen this type of stuff on chickens, from other chickens.
I can't think of anything that would do that without killing at least some of them-

used to raise poultry in large outdoor pens, and hawks are going to kill them and either eat them there, or take them away

I have seen this with weasals also they get them at the base of the neck take the turkeys and move them somewhere else and take a rat trap and put it in a shoe box with some of a fresh dead turkey in it with some anise and cut a hole in the box about 2'' in diamiter and set it in the turkey pen if it is a weasal you will catch him like this.
