Monday I was out in the yard w/ the dogs. My 7 y/o Patterdale was with me. She had a litter 4 weeks ago but has been perfectly fine. They ran around and played for 20-30 min. We came in, I made a bowl of ice cream sat down took 2 bites my wife gets up and sees the dog next to the chair and says somethings wrong. I get over there and she is stone dead. I mean done no twitching, no heart beat and no breathing. I tried to bring her back to no avail. My guess is heart attack or anuerysm. Never seen anything like it before. Really sucks she was the enforcer of my pack. Feel like Im starting over again

That's really rough. Could she have choked on something?
Generally, you would have had some sort of indication that your dog had a heart problem.
On the plus side, at least the pups are 4 weeks old. Imagine if they were 1 week.

I've heard of this for another reason-
can;t be technical, cause I don't know the tech part-
but dogs have a bacteria in them, and in times of stress, etc this bacteria can suddenly and rapidly multiply causing death like you mentioned.
A famous beagle Fd Ch Pearson Creek piper dies at 6 years like that- almost i nmid step- and the owner had him posted, and that was the verdict.
sorry to hear of your loss-
thats the damn trouble with dogs! We lose them too soon.

She had a clear air way best I could tell. IDK what happened.
On the up side looks like were keeping more than one puppy.

I seen a patterdale after working a coon jump in a cold creek and die from the shock of the water temp. That is crappy when they die like that.
