afriend of mine from kansas came out to trap with me to catch his first otter I took him out and showed him some tracks and a toilet and he said I've seen that down on the river I trap coons on .so you may get your chance soon enough . I would bet Kansa has a larger population than your biologist think .

I weighed a big otter once, it went 38 pounds. No idea if it is the biggest one that I have caught or not, just the only one I ever weighed.
Always had piles of animals to skin and my time was better spent skinning instead weighing critters.

Robert did he come from MO or down south I'm just curious as to how unusual those 35+boars are . that one stretched out 48" with a 91/2 width at the base of the tail had to make as tretcher for him .those dimensions are helpful if you didnot weigh them .

Bigfoot, I have never caught what I considered a big otter here in Missouri. All were from Arkansas or Mississippi.
I don't remember the demensions that they stretched but I have had otter stretch in the 48+ range on 8 1/2" boards (I used what I had).

I never really weigh anything but one time I caught twoo big ones side by side on a farm and the owner wanted to weigh them 40# and 41#. Can't vouch for the scales though.

only caught 3 in my life and they must have all been old males. never weighed them, but held them up for pictures with their heads at my shoulder level and their tails curled `round on the ground. lol, sold one at nafa for $8 and the other $35. this was late 80`s. I got the worst one tanned and later sold it and glad to get rid odf it. they sure wern`ta money maker back then the just got caught in beavr sets in channels. looked like no biggy deal to me. narrow the channel and a diving log and bada boom, otter. I remember they were stinky and very tough scraping and sknning. like a beavers hips but all over.

On a trip to NAFA took some pics of otter. They are sized on a computer so the square inches come out to size them. Of course the grader can bump up or down when it is viewed. This size is not what is wanted...refered to ironing board size proper sized otter

are you refering to the width as ironing . if so there is a big difference between 9" aT 41 and 91/2 at 48that bigg otter was pleated heavily at 91/2 . i tried him on a standard otter board and he would have been pleated so much iwas worried about taint .
