Building a new camp is easier. But taking this one apart is harder! Do you have good access to get there ? Probably would not take long to put a new building. Then you could, clean up and paint the old one, use it as a fur preparation shed.

Then you could, clean up and paint the old one, use it as a fur preparation shed. Right now that is THE plan. A 16x16 new building. Not this year, though. That camp is only about 30 km. from another camp which is in great shape. The stinky camp is on the edge of a 90 sq.km. line, so if things get rough weather wise or time wise it is a nice thing to have.

We've had 90+ degree days yesterday and today. Too hot to work in the bush. A little water cruising was in order. It's a chance to check portage trails, see if there are beaver and slack off a little. The rig is a 2hp on a canoe. We ran out of gas about 50 feet from shore on the way back. I had brought some just in case but didn't bother refueling. This should actually be a beach but the beaver raised the water level. We had a good swim here. The water was HOT in the shallows but much cooler when you swam out. Cruising lakes is always better with a babe. Wifey likes this type of trap line work! The scenery was beautiful as always. Mirror water and good views of the shield.

Beautiful country, wish I had a pond like that in my back yard. 2hp should push a canoe along pretty good.
Thinking about your stinky cabin. Couple things you could try, I'd mix up a batch of citrus cleaner/laundry detergent, scrub and mop the heck out of the place. Leave all the suds dripping from the walls, seal the door/windows for a week or so. Then air it out good. Then add a fresh coat of paint.
I walked into a camp the other day, any building sealed up tight will have a stink. If you can do it?, open the windows, prop the door open, let it get some air for a week or 2. Ever walk a railroad bridge when it's hot?, you're shoes will stick to the ties. If that's the smell, it might not be bad in cold weather?

I dont think you can ever get rid of the RRtie smell, that creasote is made to last a long time.

Great looking old cabin there musher, your improvements look great. How is it so much junk ( good junk in a remote location ) gets stored under a cabin. Mine is the no different, guess because it is a handy dry spot. Going to make a point to dig it all out once my wood shed is done and store there. Post us the link to your inside renos please.

very little of that stuff under the camp was put by me. Just the paint cans! the rest was by the previous owner. He was a packrat hermit type. A masters degree in psychology but no freakin' job. He sold me the line due to low prices. I had 7 pickups full of "stuff" to haul to the dump just from inside the 15x15 cabin. I don't have any "before" the dumping started. The inside was on ten test. The floor was a giant grease stain. We ripped out the skinning room, cleaned up the stove, and finished it off. It looks like this now. But we added a little furniture. We also tore down the sheds you see through the window.

Looks great musher. I'm looking for an old "oil pot" If you see a clean one under a 100$... you know what to do

The camp is on a lake but not the same lake my wife is pictured on! The lake photos are on line #1 which is about an hour drive south of the camp.
There are similar lakes within minutes of the camp. Around here it's tough to drive for 15 minutes without seeing a body of water.

Musher, what kind of speed do you get with that 2HP on your canoe? Great pics BTW!

Musher, what kind of speed do you get with that 2HP on your canoe? Great pics BTW! If you look closely you can see the water skis. It's faster than paddling and a lot less work. The motor is a little too fast for trolling sometimes. I cannot tell you an exact speed. The horse flies have a tough time keeping up, if that helps.

Never say that I don't listen to you guys! The turbine air vent on the roof. It was really tough to find one. Everyone said that they didn't exist anymore. An inside view of the air vent. I didn't want a 15 inch hole because I don't want to freeze or have a hassle blocking the vent in winter. So I delicately took the chainsaw and made an 8 inch "shape." I trimmed the edges a little after the photo was taken. The Kilz paint on the inside. The final coat of paint. The colour is "wheat." It was on sale! We'll see how the stink is next time. There was less of an odour today than there was last time. I am somewhat hopeful.

Kilz is the best I have found, when I used to work at Home Depot the guys who were buying houses to flip that had any smokers/mold/pets in them alwasy got it by the 5 gallon bucket.
