Just curious, the other day our dog killed two moles on our lawn in the middle of the day. One had a white patch on its belly, kinda of like a mink sometimes does. Is this common? Also, what where they doing up above ground in the middle of the day?
Thanks-

Have you had a lot of rain? They may have been flooded out.
The white patch is something new for me, haven't seen that yet.

Robert, its been fairly dry, when our snow melted this spring I seen some tunnels in the lawn where the grass was pushed up underneath the snow drifts. I guess maybe once the snow was gone they needed to move. Have not looked at very many moles in my life, so I did not know anything about the white patch
Thanks

don't get but 20-25 moles a year in gopher sets, never saw any white spots.
Very common for white patches and even piebalds on pocket gohpers.

Steve, a piebald pocket gopher must be kind of neat to catch.

those are the wiley ones Gerald...
they are neat- also have taken 8 pure albinos- 5 from one farm over last 3 years, 3 from another years ago. Last year, had a double in sets 4 feet apart-
told the one farmer I should let them go to keep the bloodlines going.

I`ve seen a couple with the tiny white patch. I think that rusty red stripe might be a stain from a scent gland or something. I see it mainly on the biggest moles I catch.
